Railfreak78 Posted August 12, 2010 Author Posted August 12, 2010 Here is a small update on 8/11 I did some more painting on the rack area. The dish is no longer primer grey it's light ghost grey. Added the green and painted the tanks white. The instructions say yellow but the real car is white tanks. I did the bulbs in the clear light bars and painted the other bar. I do need another coat of amber on the black bar. I'm not real happy with that bar. The colors are correct but I'm not sure I like it. I may strip it and use a different green and blue. I have some more touch up to do but it looks ok I think. Enjoy!
Jim0205 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Loving it nice build and nice commitment you have to doing the small stuff right it will definetly show in the final piece.
Artisticndn Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Hey man its looking good! Its amazing how just a few colors on the rack helps out! However, the air tanks are yellow on the rack. The reference pics of Ecto 1A on gbfans.com are of Ecto 1A after it was sitting on the movie studio's back lot for years. The paint evidently faded some and makes the tanks look white. I was shocked when I looked back at my pics to see how much they really faded. Just to make sure I got a screen grab from the movie. You can leave the tanks white if you want to make a "weathered" Ecto 1A which would look cool...or you could just simply paint the tanks yellow. Either way it'll work. I just wanted you to have an extra refernce if you needed it. Keep it up! Looks great! I gotta get busy on mine now!
Railfreak78 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 Another small update 8/13. Decals are done. I still need to cut them for the blackwash for the door jams. I have a bit of touch up to do on the flat black. A few more details are painted. I also have the front lights and rear lights in. I still need to paint a few things and right now everything is mocked up still so I can clear or Future the car. Enjoy!
David G. Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Brian, that antenna is huge! You might want to think about replacing it with wire or something. Seriously, it looks like a sidepipe on top of the fender. Other than that, what you've done so far looks really good.
Railfreak78 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 David thats a good idea but it still has to be a long one. It's a big "whip' antenna like you would see on a 4x4 for a cb radio.
Artisticndn Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Hey man its finally coming together! Its looking great! You're a good modeler. I look forward to seeing more! Are you going to detail the interior?

Are you going to detail the interior? Thanks buddy. I am planning on doing the interior and the windows today. I have some real car window tint I am going to try. I also need to do my tires and wheels too. I found a white pen I will try and hope it works for the tire lettering. Thanks for all the pictures you gave me I printed up a few of them

Do you have an extra guitar string? The B string is usually best. I'd offer to send you one, but I play bass and all the strings I have are wound strings. Even the thinnest flat-wound string I have would be about as thick as a 1/25th scale garden hose. In the right guage, steel bailing wire might work. There's also bead wire, though I've never worked with that. If I come up with other options, I'll let you know. Regards, David G.

I have some different sized wires so I'll have to play around with it. Very nice can't wait to see this one finished Thanks Jim I know you have been watching and thanks for the comments and support. I'm glad you like it
Railfreak78 Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 Not a lot done but I figured I'd share some outdoor pics after the gloss coat. Enjoy!
Railfreak78 Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 Wel,l so you guys and gals know this is not dead, I started the tires and wheels today. In this set you can see I painted the wheels white and I show the type of blackwash I use. I have to water this stuff down now a little or it will take off the chrome on chrome parts. It did not do that at first. Anyway In the pictures I watered down the ink and applied it to the low laying parts of the wheel and with a wet paper towel wipe the extra off of the higher areas. I also wipe it down with a dry towel until I get the desired effect. Next up was some BMF for the hub cap which I will more than likely redo. I am not happy with it. Then came white lettering. This is a pen I found at Hobby Lobby but I found it's better to let the paint come out on a surface and still use a toothpick. I have started the windows too but need to correct a few places. Hopefully more to come tomorrow and enjoy!
Jim0205 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Tires and wheels are looking good. The lettering on the tires decal or paint? Thats the part I loathe is detailing tires.
David G. Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Looking good, Brian! Getting the BMF to lay on those hubcaps looks like a tricky task.
Railfreak78 Posted September 5, 2010 Author Posted September 5, 2010 Jim the tires are pain stakingly done with a tooth pic. Dave thanks for the advice. Here are some interior pics since it's curbside and you can't really see it in the final project. I didn't do a lot and I'm missing the computer screen But I did do some of it... She is under glass guys! Thanks to everyone for their comments along the way!
