Hey gang,

When I first joined the site (Feb. 2010) and was brousing around, I thought I saw a thread about peoples' different workbenches and work areas, can't find now. Does anyone know the thread? Trying to find a better way to organize than the table I have now.

Thanks for the help. Mike

I'm not sure if that was the one Mike was actually referring to, Ed, but that would help, too. There have been a few threads that were posted with workbench ideas, but darned if I could find them! I think this might be in the thread Ed put the link up to, but to help you out, Mike, here's a pic of my "little slice of heaven"!

Here's a couple other "Workbench" threads, Mike. Even though they are much newer than February, they should help you out.

Also, there is this one called "Workbench Saturdays", and from the date, may be the one you're looking for.

Highway to the rescue!!

Hey Matthew, thanks for the assist, really like your little slice of heaven, looks like you put a lot of thought into organizing what you need without wasting time wondering where it is, it looks fast and easy to work there. I especially like the way you levitated the blue engine on the right next to the blinds, must REALLY make it easy to paint. I am just working on half of the dining room table for now, when I get something else going, you'll have to show me how to levitate my parts too!! :D Thanks

I just moved to a new house, close to my birth ground and I have the privilege to have the attic to my own, at least I told my wife I wanted it and she was happy to agree, since I now can keep the ###### upstairs out of sight haha.

First when we walk up the stairs is my 'relax-lounge', I installed a Jaguar interior where I can sit and relax, browse through my modelmagazines and manuals etc...

When we turn to the left, the bench-area starts.

hobbyzolder003.jpg

The blue bench is for multi-media, like my computer, videocam etc...

I also installed on all the benches a curved edge, I bought material with a 90 degree angle, but was too unpleasant for my wrists.

When we turn to the left, we get the general bench. In this part I'm going to work most, glueing and shaping etc...

hobbyzolder005.jpg

NExt to the workarea, I have the sand area on the pink towel. Most of my sanding, grinding and polishing I'll be doing here, to keep my general area tidy,

hobbyzolder006.jpg

I also installed a small photobooth, hoping to produce better pictures.

A small storage area.

And my paintbooth, I simplified my previous booth and made a curved ceiling, I must say; it works like a charm

Left to it, I got my display cabinet for my unfinished projects. Behind the doors are the boxes for the in-progress projects.

Next to that is the storage,

First and most important; the big scale's

A few hidden away

And some more hidden

hobbyzolder014.jpg

And my wide array of interest of modelkits.

In the bookcase is all my reference material and all the manuals with their decals. I just like to browse through them.

I've always kinda liked the old adage about "The best cakes are baked in the messiest of kitchens"! though. Gotta be true (IF I let you look into my model car workspace)

You're welcome, Mike, and I'm happy you like my little slice of heaven. :D Oh, and by the way, it was cheap, too! I pieced it together from a student type desk I found at a church rumage sale for a couple bucks, an old TV stand the better half's parents were getting rid of, and the hutch I bought at an auction for $25. It was actually a happy little accident, because when I bought the hutch, I thought it was both the desk and hutch, because I looked at the nice picture on the box and didn't see the "Desk not Included" part till I was dragging the box in the house! I do like trying to be orginized, even though sometimes it looks like a tornado just went though it!

Oh, and to let you in on my secret of my levitating engine, it's because I'M MAGIC!!! :) No, seriously, what the big model boxes are hiding is the, as Paul Harvey would say, the rest of the story. Here's the rest of the story:

HPIM2309.jpg

You just can't see the coat hanger stuck in the tailshaft of the transmission! Yes, that is a very big engine, too, if you look close in my desk pic, you can see the box for the 1/8 scale Trans Am it goes in. :D

I have a third car garage that is WAY too hot during the summer to do anything in. Until I get that straightened out (window AC) I model at the breakfast bar.

My lovely wife commented she would rather have me sitting at the breakfast bar building a model than sitting in a bar hitting on one..........

Hey gang,

Enjoying all the feedback so far, Eric, awesome place, out of the way but still convenient, chilling in Jag seats, how cool is that, thanks for posting for us.

Highway, ya mean I gotta find a way to hold my parts now, there is no levitation trick? Darn, wait until I tell Santa!!

Art, you are right about the kitchen, she cooks, I clean, and she is really getting the better deal, when she walks out I "pad up" to go in. Really scary.

Mark, the tool gremlin has a cousin that lives here, moves tools, pens, glasses, keys.....

Wayne, I understand exactly what ya mean, and CrazyJim, I still love your paintbooth-will travel, I gotta try that.

Thanks to all that have replied so far, man, I love it here, let's see more!!! :D

Yeah, no levitation tricks, just some simple wire, just like the "real" magicians!! :)
