i know that jimmy flintstone makes one but have heard its pretty toylike. since i dont keep close tabs on the resin market lately, i was wondering if anyone knows of a body or transkit or anything out there, quite possibly only recently released.

it just seems like such a natural to me what with the 'vette donor kits seemingly cheap and plentiful.

thanks in advance for any leads!

Jimmy Flintstone # NB156. It's really not that bad. The body appears to be quite accurate ... but the headlights are cast integral with the body ... would need to be opened up and buckets/clear covers fabricated.

Otherwise, nothing else out there that I've seen.

hey thanks for the tips and indeed i ordered one from dr flintstone. now he says to use the revell 97 - 04 corvette kit for a donor, but i did some searching around on ebay and it seems revell released corvettes in pretty much all those years, so there is pretty much a dizzying array of choices. anyone have any specific suggestions? im leaning toward a 2000 C5-R Lemans base kit which will allow me to have a pretty impressive performance potential out of a caddy! any feedback on that concept? i realize a real XLR would be closer to a base level vette from that time and there seem to be plenty of kits of those but im thinking a performance concept sort of car.

many thanks for the tips again and i am gonna kind of wait and see on the body. the photos on the site made the roof look kind of warpy but hopefully thats just the photo. i would still be in the market for a nicer one if one was available.

I think the Z06 'Vette would be closest to the actual package.

thanks...do you have a link to the specific kit you mean?

I believe the resin needs a C5 Corvette for the windshield glass.

For clear headlight covers, I would do a vacu-form of the nose. Even if you do not have a vacu-form unit, you can fake it. Make a frame to attach a 6+" square of clear plastic. Heat it up in an oven, just us it starts to gently sag, take it out of the oven wearing hot mitts, and quickly pull it down over the nose of the resin, pausing to let it cool.

Of course, you will still need to sculpt the chrome bucket reflectors. I just said "the heck with it", and sold my JF resin to someone!

thanks for the tip jon, exactly the kind of stuff i like to hear.

i just got a c5-r lemans off ebay for a reasonable price and it looks very nice, very detailed. havent gotten the flintstone order yet and dont know what his lead time is...i ordered a few other bodies while i was at it to take advantage of the free shipping on minimum order.

Bill, I got one of Jimmies XLR bodies, and when I asked him what I needed to finish it, he told me that the Maisto Die Cast Vette was needed. I JUST happened to have one, so i took it apart and tried it. and it worked! I haven't tried the Revell plastic kit to see IF it'll work, caz I just took Jim's advice and used the Die Cast parts.biggrin.gifwink.gif

thanks george, that would be way too easy to just take apart a die cast and stick the body on it. plus i really dont do diecast unless its something i really like. but i will keep the suggestion in the back of my mind and fall back on it if nothing else. thanks again
