Jared Roach Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 To start I'm NOT posting this in the trucks section because I find it dosen't get as much Traffic as here. but anyways, I wasn't going to start a wip thread for it, but felt like showing you all what I am currently working on. It's AMT's 93 Ford Ranger Snap Fast curbside level one kit. So Far I'm really enjoying building this, and it has alot of detail which makes it look good with some paint detailing. Here's the box: So I primed the cab and bed, and painted the grill Tamiya Deep blue metallic, which the rest of the truck will be: I am using a modified bed roll bar from the monogram f250, which I still have to fill the joints were they were glued, because the look bad. The Front bumper was sprayed flat black from far away to get a bed liner look on it, same will be done to the rear bumper and the fender flares as well: Here I blackwashed the rims, and they look a 100X better then before. I also took a tooth pic and painted the white letters on the Tires, which need to be touched up some: The Chassis is pretty much done. I sprayed it blue and primer, then painted the frame, exhaust etc... I still need to paint the shocks: So everybody, I plan to let the primer dry good over night, and in the morning put some of that Tamiya Deep blue on it, first time using Tamiya so I'm looking forward to trying it. Thanks for looking everybody.
Guest snapper Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 You just can't beat those little Rangers. Looks like you are off to a great start. I surprised at the kit detail for a snap kit, especially on the chassis and underside. I think you will be pleased with the Tamiya - it's good stuff.

The Funny thing is that I drive a 99 sonoma, which I think is WAY better looking then a ranger and I like it way more, but I like all mini trucks, just that I'm a GM guy
charlie8575 Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 That color will look nice on it. I liked those AMT Snap Fast Plus kits. They were easy to build and looked great done. Charlie Larkin
David G. Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 That looks really good for a snap kit. I'm surprised at the level of detail that there seems to be. Looks like a fun build too. I didn't know there was a snap version of the 1993 Ranger. I have one of AMT's 1993 Ranger Splash kits which I picked up at a swap meet. I plan on converting to a 1998 replica of my 1:1. The wheels might pose a challenge, I've only ever seen one other set like these. At the risk of seeming like a hijacker, here's a photo of it... Regards, David G.
Jared Roach Posted August 22, 2010 Author Posted August 22, 2010 Cool ranger you got there david. This build is a really different one for me, because I drive this: So I feel a bit out of place building a Ranger!

Jared Roach Posted August 22, 2010 Author Posted August 22, 2010 Nice "Jimmy" what year is it? Accually it's a sonoma, the jimmy name was used with the blazer, and sonoma with s10. But anyways it's a 99 and has 95,000 kms and I got the ranger painted Tamiya Deep blue and it looks good. I still need to wet sand and add another coat or two then clear. Thanks for lookin.

If my guesstimate is right, that's really low mileage (kilometerage?), about 60,000 US Miles? Mine's a '98 and has about 78,000 mi (125,000kms?). Oh yeah, that's a pretty color on your Ranger kit too! Looks like it should polish up nicely. Regards, David G.

It is about 60,000 miles, but it looks nice from far away, but once you get close it's scartched to hell and both cab corners are gone. But I do plan to do some work to it when I get some money. I still gotta wet sand it, because some dust and unwanted stuff got in it, then a couple more coats and then clear.

Most mileage estimates allow for 10 to 12 thousand per year, so a vehicle that's 11 or 12 years old would normally have between 100 and 130 thousand miles on it. Yours is only at 60,000, that's pretty good!
