Scott S Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) Well while waiting for parts to work on the 4300 int and dump ive started yet another reefer combo. ive had this transtar eagle cabover and great dane reefer for ever. i feel the kit is one of the most beautiful kits of its time (just my opinion) the detail is just so nice. this one i streached 2" (got little work on frame streach yet so dont hammer me on that..lol)(what ever that is in scale) painting it dark garnet pearlcoat and champian metalic (both chrysler colors) im going to make it a 435 detriot by adding a turbo. daul stacks and intakes. the trailer will be champian with matching burgundy reefer, graghics and rear door frame, adding matching budd wheels on trail i robbed from the 4300 i just swapped the budds for the daytons.. heres a few progress pics Hope to have some trailer pic's here in next couple days. Thanks for looking, Scott Edited August 28, 2010 by Scott S
chuckyr Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Great start. I would have to agree that the Ertl Great Dane reefer has to rank in the top three of 1/25th scale kits. I was lucky enough to acquire two original sealed kits, plus a whole lot of complete, unassembled truck kits from a guy in Indianapolis in the late 1990s for ###### near nothin'. My plan is to make a day cab, mid 1970s ish Cruise Liner supermarket rig.
cowboysevens Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 those colors really look good together!! this is gonna be a nice biuld, cant wait to see it finished. dennis
Old Albion Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Scott, That is a great colour combination it looks very clean and crisp. It looks well with the long frame to. One thing to watch for the front axle in the kit is to wide and the steer wheels protrude out the side of the cab. Apart from that I agree one of the best kits out there. Thanks for sharing. Dave
goldengate man Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 i have always thought that the transtar was the king of cabovers , and that just happens to be my favorite kit of all times . very nice start . i wish roun 2 would reissue that one..
mackinac359 Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Both are great kits. Watch the front axle placement. Ertl had a problem with the axle placed to far aft and the tire fouled out with the battery box. Tim
Scott S Posted August 28, 2010 Author Posted August 28, 2010 Thanks for the tips on the front axle, never realy noticed it until it was pointed out. i can fix before going fwd w build.( i got a lil touch up frame work so gud time to take care of.) Thanks, Scott
Jim B Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Looks like it's coming along nicely. I like the color combination.
Tony Bryan Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Very nice paint work, what sort of paint have you used there?
Scott S Posted August 28, 2010 Author Posted August 28, 2010 Dupli color automotive paints are what i use. pep boys up here have a huge assortment of colors.
Scott S Posted August 29, 2010 Author Posted August 29, 2010 Heres some more pic's i narrowed the front axle 2mm and moved it fwd 1 mm better fit now, Engines painted and installed and the work on the trailer has begun. Wheels and tires are just dummied up for a feel to what it'll look like, reefer gets burg. paint , rear doors are chrome..suspension fuel tank and landing gear will be champiagn to keep line intact. (oh om graphicly challenged, lol, im trying to get better..) Thanks for looking, Scott
cowboysevens Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 wow that is lookin sharp!! are you gonna put the trailer axle slider on or permant fix them? that paint looks good matching truck and trailer together. it looks like your frame might be longer then mine, whats it measure in tru inches? are you gonna add some chicken lights or keep a clean strait look? this is a really nice biuld dennis
Scott S Posted August 29, 2010 Author Posted August 29, 2010 Thanks Dennis, its 11 3/4" from fwb cab mts to rear of frame, slider will be operationable. prob. no chix lites, i like um clean and uncluttered, just the required lites. just personal prefferance. im gonna add the turbo and manifolds from chris to make it a 435 and i'm still not sure which dirrection im going with intake and exh. i tried to line up the stripes on the cab and trailer to give it kind of a flow. i think when doors, reefer and undercarrage are on its gonna be a nice trailer. Scott

Scott yeah i know what ya mean as far as clutter, the last truck you biult came out super clean. i like em both ways, oh and i got you by 3/4" lol!! mine measures 12 1/2 " center of front cab mount to end of the frame. you sure got a nice truck goin on here. dennis
The Modeling Hermit Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 You've got a really clean build there. Did you notice the paint bleed through in front of the left door? I like the stretch and color combination.
Scott S Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 Yeah i did, thanks, theres two fish eyes on L head lite panel, so i'm gonna reshoot lower left side, cab is realy just mocked up for now to get color feel. Dennis, i'll get you on the next one..lol i'm gonna do the aerodyne KW w/ a KTA 600 and a mile long chassis with the Beall tanker... Scott
