Sixties Sam Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Hey, guys, my step-grandson wants me to build him a model for a Christmas gift. He wants a "Ram 2500 in black with exhaust stacks and lifted", in his words. It looks simple to build and might survive the occasional play session he might be tempted to have. He's 12, but has two younger brothers who might get their hands on it! Has anyone here ever built this kit? I'm guessing that the chassis is a one piece molded unit, so I'm not sure how to lift the wheels. Any ideas? Have there been any other kits made of a Ram 2500 that might be better? I did a search, but came up empty. Thanks for any help. Sam
Railfreak78 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I did that one a long time ago. It is a one piece chassis and it's curbside as far as the engine bay goes. I think I still have the body and chassis. I will have to dig them out if you need pics.
AzTom Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 It does have the one piece chassis, basically a promo model. It has heavy steel axles so it should hold up well. If he's 12 I'd give it to him as a kit and let him build it. Kids seem to take better care of stuff they built. AzTom
highway Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Even though it is the dually version, this is one I have. It does build into a nice truck, whether it's the 2500 or the 3500 dually and the interior looks like it should. The frame is one piece and does look nice with some detail painting. This one was lengthened with a piece from another kit, but that is generally what to expect, except without four catalytic converters!
The Modeling Hermit Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I bought one when they first came out, as well as several promos. As has been stated, it was an unassembled promo.
Chuck Most Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 The only "downer" are the chrome headlights. Other than that it's a fun...and really easy...build. I did mine in one day. That's about the only gripe I have with this kit, as well, but other than that it's a pretty good kit, despite the fact it's a snapper.
Sixties Sam Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks for the info, guys. Here's an update and a new question: I went ahead and ordered the kit from Jim Adkins (jimnohio), and he emailed me saying the kit he had was missing the entire interior! He let me pick another model and sent me the Ram 2500 minus its interior for FREE! What a great guy to deal with! Now my question is: Does anyone here have an interior that would fit this truck? I have old seats and a dashboard or two that I could probably cobble together, but it would be nice to have the real interior to use. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Sam
george 53 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Sam, just use the interior from the Ram Glue kit! It's the same thing and it sure SEEMS like it would be a drop in fit! Hope rthis helps!
