Mj-Styro Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Waiting on some things for the Grumpys toy I thought i would get this out and going seeings how i need to do alot to it...... Started the grafting of the windshield frame from another kit ( In this case the cat cougar re-issue will donate it)...
Mj-Styro Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 As you can see in the picture i ended up going with a different windshield frame, just couldnt get the other one to work, because of so much build up glue etc from being repaired so many times i decided i would be better off going with a new one! windshield frame is from a 1972-3 Merc Cougar re-issue,i was able to salvaged the sunvisor's from the Orginal windshield frame. Funny part is i couldnt use the 73 merc glass, found that the 69 fit better and will be using it. Now onto some minor body work and with any luck will have it in primer later on today........Wanna get the new inner fender wells in place.
RyanSilva Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Impressive, Il be watching this. What engine you going with?
Mj-Styro Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 Impressive, Il be watching this. What engine you going with? Dont know just yet, maybe go with a small block, but that could change LOL
RyanSilva Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 LOL, yea.. i know how that goes. Thats why powerplants are usualy last for me.. or the car itself is built around the engine.
Mj-Styro Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 Body is in primer!! still some minor body work to tend too. The interior is painted Hampstead green dupli-color then dull coated with testors lacquer dull coat. Chassis is was painted then clear coated. body will be same color. Going for the 70s look in the green hope it works! The hood is a nitemare!! but i think i can get it after i coat it with a skim coat of two part putty.
Jeff Johnston Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 OOh nice...and its green. You know me and my love for old green fords LOL

Abell82 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Now that's just silly, who ever heard of a green cat?? j/k! It's looking great, I can't wait to see it finished!
Mj-Styro Posted February 28, 2007 Author Posted February 28, 2007 Heres what i started with, just to give you all an idea..... pretty scary eh!
ismaelg Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 En route to another GREAT save! Green is my least favorite car color, but I have to admit I really like this one a lot! Thanks,
Mj-Styro Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Got most of the trimmings done, still have the sunvisor header to do but i will wait till i get the glass installed. Marker lights have been detail painted as well........ the scripts and wheel well lips were done with a silver metallic sharpie.
James Flowers Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I love your work you do some really good saves. I have been looking for a 1970 myself but so far cost is to much. Look forward to seeing it finished.
Mj-Styro Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 My first goal at detailing a dash alittle bit........ to me it doesnt look to fancy but then again i see it in my eyes LOL
Brian Fishburn Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 You know, when the rest of us get a new kit, we open it up, eyeball the parts for a while, maybe glue the engine halves together, then put it back in the box for another day. When MJ gets a new kit, he opens it, breaks a few parts, loses a few, then glues some lousy custom junk on crooked. When the glue is dry, he steps back and says "NOW- I can build it!" You know I love watching what you do, man. Having saved a couple of goners myself, I also know the satisfaction you get. Think about the fact that a lot of the models you finish would end up at the bottom of someone's box, if not the trash can- restro on!
Mj-Styro Posted March 5, 2007 Author Posted March 5, 2007 HAve it mocked up on all 4's now LOL need to lower the front atad yet! but it looks just like i pictured it! mean and yet it is sittin still!
Abell82 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 It's coming along great!! When you are done with that one let me know I'll send you a 67/68 that's a REAL challenge!!
MrObsessive Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Mike, you continue to impress! I might have passed that up as a hopeless case if I saw that on a vendors table in the shape you got it............ I'm sure the model has breathed a sigh of relief for being saved!
hogs29 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Very, very cool! 8) 8) Looks just like one my friend had a few years back, only his wasn't a convertible, but it was the same color, or at least extremely close. And he had a set of Crager S/S wheels on his too! Seeing your model just brought back a flood of memories. Awesome work. Keep it up!!!
Mj-Styro Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 Hey!!!!!!! shes almost done!!!! driveshaft, dist, air cleaner..........and waiting on the new front bumper and grill to arrive then can install them and call it done!!! OH and add exhaust tips....
