sjordan2 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Wow, this is going to be very challenging to turn it into a Torpedo body style. What paint do you intend to use for the polished metal effect?
Harry P. Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Wow, this is going to be very challenging to turn it into a Torpedo body style. What paint do you intend to use for the polished metal effect? After seeing his "Jairus" build, you can bet it'll be Alclad!
sjordan2 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) PS: How do you intend to replicate the extra disk wheel covers for the fender-mounted spares? I would love to get my hands on a set of 6 for my 1/16 Phantom III. Edited October 12, 2010 by sjordan2

Scalper Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Wow John. Not my type of car. But the door hinges look great. Cant wait to see the metal paint job in this one.
tuffone20 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) Don't know how you do it or find the time to build these awesome models!! It's looking really good John and I'll be watching this one for sure!! Edited October 14, 2010 by tuffone20
sjordan2 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Superb job on the fenders. And you were very astute on the need to lower the suspension, which is too high on the original kit. Edited October 15, 2010 by sjordan2
Foxer Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Is that just a silver wire you used to get the bead on the fender edges? It's fascinating seeing you work.
vaughn Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) OK John..... Been slow with mine of late. The interior wore me out. As usual, yours is looking great ! Been working on an addition to a Dio for a show, but will be back on the RR real soon. Whats your interior gonna be? Give me some insight on those hinges,if you can. Looks great as usual. John Teresi Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 Hello.......I scratch built side spot lights......modified and scratch side mirrors with lights..........modified and scratch spare tires......modified front and rear wheels for easier painting and alclad......coming along ......thank`s for looking.
vaughn Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 All your scratch built stuff looks great John. Door hinges ? Need to know how. If you care to share.
pharr7226 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Nice work on the the fenders and recessed area for the spare on the driver's side. The wheel work is spectacular. I too am interested in what you used for the metal ring. I always enjoy watching your builds. Thanks for sharing.
John Teresi Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 All your scratch built stuff looks great John. Door hinges ? Need to know how. If you care to share. Terry......I`ll try to explain the hinges.......first I sanded off the hinges that were on the doors already ......becuse they were not necessary......then I used styrene rods and driled the center out.......and cut 6 little pieces for each side......then with flat styrene I cut 6 moon shaped pieces for each side and glued the drilled rod pieces to each end of the moon shaped piece.......then I glued 3 of those pieces to the rear of the body........look at the photos and you will see the placement ......you will have to file a little grove into the body so that the end of the rod will hang out like it did before you sanded it off the door.......after you have glued these on and the glue dries......you can sand the inside flat........then line up the door with tape and line up all the hinges......stick a straight pin threw the hinges so that everything lines up and then carefully glue the the 3 moon shaped.hinges to the door ......you will need to file a slot as well so that the hinge is where it would be before you sanded it off .........then after the glue dries you can file the inside flat......repeat for the other side......I would use super glue.....it dries fast and is very strong.......if you need more info let me know......thank`s.
John Teresi Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) What did you use for the wheel disk rings? Skip and Rick......I cut off the the outer ring of the wheel....... and added a thin piece of styrene to the wheel to compensate for the loss of what I sanded off.......then I sanded and shaped for a snug fit........thank`s Edited October 18, 2010 by John Teresi
Chuck Most Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Looks like another beauty in the works, John!
vaughn Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Thanks John for the info. Looks simple enough but I think I might be too far ahead to add hinges to mine, not unless I go backwards. Theres always another.
Railfreak78 Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Looks great so far my friend. I like the way you made the lip around the bottom of the fenders to give it texture and style.
