seanyb505 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Im looking to do a model as a fictional GT1 car, but cant seem to find the right wheel/tire combo. Most of the things Ive seen are much to large for a 1:25 GT car, and do not have single lugnuts. Most resin casters stick to drag racing, but are there any that do sports cars? Thanks!
iBorg Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Have you considered getting a DTM car for parts? That could also provide interior parts and maybe even body parts. Mike
seanyb505 Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Actually a Mercedes CLK-GTR would be perfect. It looks like the wing is somewhat universal, but then Im left with CLK-GTR that I cant complete...UNLESS...Buy some of the five lug BBS rims and build it as a street version(even though the street version also had single lugs), sans wing, but that could be scratch built. I dont know if I can bring myself to pay that much for a kit, knowing Im going to have to throw more money at that one just to finish it. Edited October 22, 2010 by seanyb505

You can always order just the wheels and tires, either from Tamiya direct or the various Japanese mail order businesses.
Jon Cole Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Sean, perhaps you could also consider Revells late-model Corvette C6-R kits?
seanyb505 Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 I was holding one of those the other day at the LHS. They use a single spoke design rather than the BBS rims pictured above. I was quite tempted anyway due to the decals. The revell C6R will have the 24hr race decals, but since Im going for something raced stateside in the ALMS, it's not quite there. Close, but so far. I was unaware that I could order wheels and tires from Tamiya. I will look into that.
Brendan Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Here's a link to Strada Sports and a manufacturer called Scale Productions. He has wheels and rims that are very good. It's what I use when I don't like the kit rims when I'm doing prototype cars and race cars. http://www.stradasportsstore.com/page86.html
seanyb505 Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 Wow that's an awesome selection! But holy pricey! I know there isn't a lot of demand for it and it's probably high quality, but I'm not sure I can justify spending more on the wheels than I will on the rest of the kit altogether! If I hit the lottery I'll be all over that site. Thanks!
Eric Stone Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I dunno if any of these would work for you, but Autoart sells slot car wheels. http://www.autoartmodels.com/product.web.ViewProducts.do?st=dcm.title&field0=*&field1=pb.productBrandId&field2=ps.productScaleId&field3=pgs.productGroupId&field3_compare=in&key3=3%2C4%2C5&key0=wheel&key1=&key2=5&x=53&y=8

Most of the stuff that's out there is meant for normal street cars.
seanyb505 Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) Found what I needed searching ebay: Looks like what I need - center lug and slick included! I guess these are my best option at the moment. And after some research it seems the manufacturer isnt casting anymore... the sense of urgency is strong... Edited December 17, 2010 by seanyb505
