Deckerz Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 (edited) Alright so im building this as a kinda last hoora before revell release the 2010 mustang (which i will purchase), i might or might not finish this before its released but i don't know when its being released. OK so first i need to give shoutouts to Modlbldr and Aftashox, these guys are great, Modlbldr set me up with a load of parts that will help big time with this build and Aftashox sent me a GT500 engine a while ago. The GT500 engine did not fit the engine bay so i thought at first the GT500 used a slightly different engine bay but its the same, so i tore the engine apart and noticed that the cam covers were on the cylinder heads the wrong way round, i put them the right way and now it fits (in the pic its just sitting together, none of the parts are glued), the engine did not have a tranny though so i emailed revell of germany and they said they will send me the 2 halfs of the engine block but won't arrive for 2-4 weeks, so iv salvaged what i can from this engine, the heads, the supercharger and the intake and iv now stripped them ready to be primered. The block will be black, the cylinder head will be silver along with the intake and oil pan, the supercharger will be black and the cam covers will be red with silver detailing. This is the basic design i have planned for this body with no decal on it yet, on this design iv included the resin front lip and 1/4 window louvers iv seen on ebay, i will also have to get the hood with the slightly raised cowl to fit the strut brace. This is the bullit mustang strutbrace in the pic below but because it uses the stock mustang engine it doesn't fit over the supercharger unfortunatly, i have 2 of these so i will try and modify 1 to fit but if that fails i will try make one abit like the mustang GTR strut brace. Now for the wheels, i don't want to use aftermarket ones because i know there will be fitment problems or modification needed that i CBA with so i think i will use the the stock GT wheels or these bullit wheels inside some pegasus aluminium sleeves. Finally the engine, here it is mocked up, not glued. The body in the pic is just to give you an idea of what its going to look like, the body im using is one from a old project, it is currently being stripped of the old paint and is going well. OK so thats all for now, progress will be slow the next few weeks until i get the engine but the body should be stripped soon then i can order the resin parts. Edited December 16, 2010 by Deckerz
whale392 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 If you're going to stick those wheels inside Pegasus 23" sleeves, be ready to cut the inner fenderwells out unless you are going for a 4x4 look (just talking from experience here).
Deckerz Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 If you're going to stick those wheels inside Pegasus 23" sleeves, be ready to cut the inner fenderwells out unless you are going for a 4x4 look (just talking from experience here). Don't worry, i had that problem before with the 23" but the 19" do the job nicely, they are a tiny bit smaller then the stock mustang wheels (with tyres), if i went with the 23" i think it will kinda look like a slammer hich i don't want. Thanks for the input.
whale392 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 That's cool, as I didn't know what size sleeves you were using I just wanted to give you a heads-up. I found this out the hard way and didn't want you going through the same 'Oh, Poo' reaction I did.

Also i need to find a way to lower the front because ATM it sits too high.
whale392 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 most everybody takes 1/16th of an inch off the springs and adjusts the arms accordingly to set the ride height down where it needs to be.
Deckerz Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) OK guys, here the situation with the body being used for this project, the one on the left is the one you have already seen in the pic above, the one on the right is the one thats going to be used, its not fully sripped yet, because i had no tub that was perfect to sit the body in and then bath it in brake fluid, i had to brush the brake fluid on which made it longer to strip but its not a problem. the hardest bit to strip was the clear layer because i used tamiya clear orange, once it got through that it was kinda like a skin, i peeled it off and most of the paint under that came with it, its now being stripped again just to get whats left off and on the inside, it will not take the primer off but it doesn't matter because its going to be re preped. im trying to do the windows now but i can't, they have a frosted look on the glass that need to be black but i keep going wrong with shapie. EDIT: Finished stripping the paint (except for that bit on the boot but that will sand off) can't get rid of the primer but it will be sanded down, then glue the resin parts (once i get some money in PP), re primer and paint silver then do the black detail in the headlights and blackout the tailights. So heres a mockup with the interior/engine bay tub and the temporary block (because is has no transmission). How i will be painting the engine bay is like this, same silver as the car then black detailing on the fuse box, battery etc The engine block will be gloss black, oil pan, intake and cylinder heads silver, supercharger flat black, and cam covers will be painted with red oxide primer then detailed with silver paint. Radiator will probaly be silver with black wash. Edited November 8, 2010 by Deckerz
Deckerz Posted November 19, 2010 Author Posted November 19, 2010 So iv not had much time to work on models lately and no money but next week is my last driving lesson for a while so il be able to get alot of work done. heres a update on the dash, added a wire like the GTR, it will connect under the new steering column im adding which stole from a 67 GTX but i will change for a green one. il start on the door cards soon, il probaly sand down or putty over the speakers and sand away the moulded rear seatbelts. Anyway enough talk...
Modlbldr Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Decklan- I just came across your build. Good to see that those parts I sent are going to good use. I like the plan you've got and it looks like you're off to a great start. I'll be watching to see how it turns out. Keep up the good work. Later-

I like the plan you've got and it looks like you're off to a great start. I'll be watching to see how it turns out. Keep up the good work. Later- Thanks man the parts are helping alot OK so, today i have added the GT 500 white dials because they look better then the GT dials and because im using the GT 500 engine. Also after trial and error got the hydraulic handbrake in the right place and mocked up the seat, i will have to add some risers to the seat to make it look correct, i also have to make the new steering column fit without it coming to far forward. I need to get the resin lip and louvers still, a nascar rollcage and a new race steering wheel as i accidently stood on mine and it snapped Anyway, heres the mock up pics... Not the best angle but i think you get the idea.
Deckerz Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 ok so iv done a little work on the chassis today, obviously by the pics its not done... i primed the chassis and front suspension the hand painted with thinned tamiya gloss black, its only had one coat so far. i did the silver bits with thinned tamiya titanium silver, i think the axle need a little weathering. now i need yout input guys, should i paint the exhaust system again with the tamiya silver then detail it with clear blue and clear yellow or should i paint it chrome (to match metal tips) and detail it?
Deckerz Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 This morning it finally came, the new block and engine face, i don't have the drive belts for the GT500 but i hope to get a set of metal detailed ones. I have started painting on it already, only small but the supercharger base is now titanium silver but i might paint it in alclad chrome. Engine Colours (Tamiya Paint) Block - Semi gloss black Cams - Semi gloss black Cam Covers - Light green (with black detail) Supercharger Base - Titanium Silver (maybe alclad chrome instead) Supercharger - Semi gloss black Intake - Undecided
Deckerz Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 I was doing research last night into the rollcage of a mustang gt and thought it was only inside the cockpit but i was wrong, i cannot find any pictures of the rollcage in the back of the car inside the cockpit though. Anyway heres the picture i came across.... I think this would be classed as part of the rollcage but not sure, anyway heres what iv started on, obviously my tubes are abit thicker but you get the idea. I had to cut the fuse box out because otherwise the tube wouldn't fit, i know the engine bay looks smaller then the model engine bay but the model is not perfectly true to scale.
Deckerz Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 heres a few more shots, test fitted to make sure it fits I think for covering the old fuse box, i could probaly just melt a thin a piece of styrene on top of it or glue a piece under it. This first bar was easy to make, just trimmed a piece down to size but now iv got to start the mesuring for the rest of these front pieces, once cut, shaped and glued, i can then start on the cockpit rollcage. Its all being made just from part trees.
horsepower Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 lol, i think actually i will get some of the 19 pegasus wheels because the sleeves will be too wide for the rear so i need to find some that are a little wider then the stock mustang wheels but not really wide. Also i need to find a way to lower the front because ATM it sits too high. For mine, I used the 19" Pegasus wheels, & narrowed the wheels to fit the kit tires. I also cut the rear springs done by removing the top two coils, & the fronts two & 1/2 to sit the car level. I had to remove just a small amount of the driveshaft tunnel where the front of the rear end housing snubber was touching it.
ewaskew Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 This is coming along nicely. You can buy a plastic container-shoe box size to put your bodies in for about a dollar. They work great for cleaning old paint. Earl God Bless
Deckerz Posted December 18, 2010 Author Posted December 18, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the comments guys, really motivates me to keep going on my builds. Alright guys iv done alot of mesuring and calulating stuff for this car for the scratch build parts such as the roll cage so theres not much change in progress but i mocked up the engine with the front on and radiator with fan just to make sure the dont hit the bar in the front and gladly they don't tomorrow iv got to clean up for christmas, put stuff in the loft and do some wallpapering. once thats done i will try to get the engine in primer. should i strip the supercharger base and paint it chrome or should i leave it met silver?
