Poncho-Power Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 So some of you may know November 11 is Remembrance Day in Canada, so let take a min at 11am and remember those who have fought to make us live free, let's salute our veterans who fought and died for our freedom. In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. John McCrae
iBorg Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 My Father died this year. He was both a Korean and Viet Nam vet. It wasn't until I went through his effects preparing for his funeral that I truly knew what he gave. Mum talked about how he had changed after Viet Nam. It wasn't until the latter years of his life that he came to peace with things that happened during that war. Mum said that she had been married to four men. The one before Korea. The one who came back from Korea. The one who came back from Viet Nam. The one who finally was at peace. It wasn't until the military service at the cemetery, that I finally understood why the military had been so special to him. It made him who he was. What he was, was a good man. He served the country in the military and continued serving others after his retirement. I appreciate what he gave me and he and others gave to this country. I encourage you to say thanks to a veteran tomorrow and every other opportunity you have. I also ask you to say a prayer for those fighting battles both abroad and within themselves.
