Mudpit602 Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Heres a Vette I started when I was about 11 or 12 years old and now its time to finsh it.
dwc43 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Like the wheels. Can[t wait to see it finished.
W-409 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 What is the kit? Is it AMT, MPC or what...? It looks like MPC's '57 Flip Nose Vette, but it can't be that kit... This would be AMT... But there are lots of same looking parts, than in that MPC's Flip Nose kit, but there are also lots of parts, that are not in that Flip Nose Vette kit. Maybe it's AMT but you know better then I do, I think... But it's very interesting project, keep it going. I'm watching it for sure!

Iam sorry it been a long time sence I work on it.
horsepower Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 It appears to actually be the Monogram release of the '57 'Vette/
Mudpit602 Posted November 15, 2010 Author Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Here the car all tore apart. I also sanded down all the mold lines in the body and got it primered. Edited November 15, 2010 by Mudpit602
Dr. Cranky Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Wow, great job on cleaning up the body and many of the parts, quite a transformation.
Modellpularn Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 It looks like the MPC kit. Are you building it as a street car? Then I'd suggest you glue - laminate two or maybe three, or more... layers of strip styrene in the rear wheel wells, to make them smaller. This reissue, and many others had the rear wheel wells enlarged to fit slicks. Otherwise, normal street tires will look small.....

All the parts thatsin the pic came with the kit. Iam not sure if it is a MPC or AMT. Its been a lone time sence I have messed with it. Danno Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Neat project, Toby!! Looking forward to seeing it finished.
Modellpularn Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Here's a bone stock body from the first issue of the MPC kit, made in the mid 60's. It might be hard to see in the pic, but these wheel wells are slightly smaller in diameter. About 2 mm. They also have a different shape. Those in your body are perfectly rounded, to fit slicks. Here's the altered body, made to fit slicks. This is the "Malco Super Vette", same basic parts as the first issue. "Same but different" And here's the finished model, built in '74. You see, ERTL that bought MPC and AMT never bothered to fix the wheel wells back to stock, they just reissued the kit in different forms over the years. Many years later, another '57 Vette was released by AMT/ERTL. First as a stocker, then street machine. But it's a whole new kit. I know, it's a jungle out there.... imatt88 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Toby, Nice job on the paint and foil. Airbrush or rattle can? I'm working on restoring a stock '59 Vette that my brother-in-law gave me. First coat of primer went on the other day. Looks like ######. Needs more body work and a good wet sanding Nice job, looking forward to seeing the finished product Cheers, Ian
