AzTom Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) Well ... it's all over! What a great time. The Grandson and I went today, Sunday and checked out everything that came in since Friday. I added many more photos to both albums. AzTom Brian, Railfreak78 Congratulations on your two "Peoples Choice" awards. Edited November 22, 2010 by AzTom

David G. Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Tom- thanks for the cool pics. I wish I could've been there. Brian- your John Deere roadster looked great on the table, along with what looked like your Ecto-1. Which one nabbed you the People's Choice? Congratulations on that, too!

It was Ecto-1 and my Suburban tank thing I made up that was and Desert Scale Classic nabbed the other one. Thanks again
Danno Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) The 13th Southwest Nationals Model Car and Pedal Car Show at Scottsdale was a huge success. We had more entries than ever before and a phenominal number of spectators cast ballots for their favorite entries! Brian scored two of the "TOP 12 PICKS" awards with his Ecto-1A and his post-apocalyptic Sub-Urban. Another regular poster on this forum, Marty "Martay" AKA Tuff-120, scored another of the "TOP 12 PICKS" awards with his 1989 Batmobile. The PEOPLES CHOICE award went to the absolutely incredible junkyard diorama by Lanny Haas. BEST OF SHOW award went to another diorama, a racetrack creation by Cody Snyder. BEST PEDAL CAR award was captured by restored Firefighter by Walt Pocock. BEST JUNIOR award went to Billy Strahan (13 years of age) for his '66 Chevelle station wagon. More official results, and photos, later. Many thanks to everyone who helped put on the show! Dan Edited November 22, 2010 by Danno

Greg Cullinan Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Nice turn out on the tables and the pavement. Congratulations to all and thanks for the pictures.

Another regular poster on this forum, Marty "Martay" AKA Tuff-120, scored another of the "TOP 12 PICKS" awards with his 1989 Batmobile. Dan Congratulations guys! Are there any pics of the Batmobile? If there were any in the fotki sets, I must have missed them.
Danno Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Congratulations guys! Are there any pics of the Batmobile? If there were any in the fotki sets, I must have missed them. I had two photographers and a videographer there. Haven't received any of the pix yet; one of the photographers is resting/recovering (ran him ragged), the other is pouting (something about Jimmie Johnson), and the videographer is editing. As soon as I get some pix, I'll post them. Thanks for your patience!
Railfreak78 Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I don't know how to make links to like Photobucket really. Last time I did it my computer said the link was unsafe when I went to double check it and I have no viruses. So I'll just do it this way. Here is the best Junior, followed by the Top 12. Then followed by the Peoples choice and Best of show. Enjoy everyone. I'll post more later on after I get home from work.
Railfreak78 Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Here are some overall pics of the group I managed to upload before leaving for work. I'll post more pics of the slot car track and some of my favorites later.
Danno Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Thanks, Brian! Brian wasn't one of my 'official' photographers but he got the good shots and he got them "up" quickly ... those are the important things! (But he forgot the pedal cars! LOL.) We had close to 2,000 ballots cast by spectators and competitors (only one each)! We had 230+ kids for Revell's Make-N-Take (not counting the "kids" from Moonlight Modelers who acted as helpers and advisers to the participating kids). My thanks to the Moonlight Modelers who helped us put on this event: Dale Mickley, Renee Kallen, Harold Oswald, Bernie Kankiewicz, Chuck Granger, Tom Neu, Marty Coffel, and Toby Dockstader. Huge thanks also to those club members who came in to help with the Revell Make-N-Take: Dan Doane, Lanny Haas, Bill "Scotty" Scott, Brian Wiltbank, and Milt Sullivan. And, of course, the Lovely and Gracious Mrs. B, who helps out all year long with the preparations and presentations of both the Southwest Nationals and the Spring Nationals! Dan
tuffone20 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Dan, Here are the pedal cars photos that I took. Hey Danno would you like to tell the story about this pedal car?
tuffone20 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 And here are some of the "Real Winners" from the show!!
Danno Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Thanks, Marty! Yep! Those last few photos show the great ones! The kids who participated in Revell's Make-N-Take had a terrific time! Look at those faces! They loved it. For many, it was the very first model car kit they had ever built. And, the fact that mom/dad/both were there and worked on it with them was extra special. The white pedal car story is priceless. That old white pedal car (complete with seat belt equipped "rumble seat" in the back for a favorite doll), was modified with the pull handle. A sweet little 3-year old young lady was enjoying the GoodGuys show from the comfort of her pedal car (being "driven" by dad). She got real excited when she saw the other pedal cars on display and told dad she wanted her pedal car to be entered in the contest and displayed ... just like his car! (Dad had a 1:1 hot rod entered in the show outside.) So, she eagerly climbed out of her pedal car and was thrilled when dad filled out the registration form and put her car on the display table! She (and mom, or dad, or grandpa) came by the Model Car and Pedal Car Show a couple more times during the weekend ... just to "check" on her car! She was even more thrilled on Sunday when her pedal car came back to her ... with a special "Awesome" ribbon we sneaked out overnight and bought just for her.
Railfreak78 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Here are some pics of the slot car set up. This thing had something to see Everywhere! Town scenes, and hidden fun. Even Where's Waldo?
