Dr. Cranky Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Not if you still have to go and work!
crazyjim Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 It's 10:00am here and up to a scorchin' 36 degrees. Too cold to go out to the shop and I have things to get done out there.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Well, it's about 41 or lower in the garage, but it's time to go in there and make more progress. Stay tuned in!
crazyjim Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Too cold for me. I suppose I could get out there, turn on the heater, and go back out in 30 minutes or so.
Foxer Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) It's 16 degrees out in my garage and a bit warm for this time of year.. may have to crank the a/c up. but I only use it to store my 1:1 models anyway. Edited December 14, 2010 by Foxer
crazyjim Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Now you guys made me feel guilty so I went out and turned the heater on in the shop. I'll be out there shortly to work on my mile high Dodge D50, '56 Ford pickup, and the '68 Dodge Dart hemi.
Zhu Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 DammCranky Posted Today, 05:49 AM Well, it's about 41 or lower in the garage, but it's time to go in there and make more progress. Stay tuned in! It’s a barmy 2 degrees here & falling in South West England Dr C. Too cold to be out in the shed or garage, I’ll be modelling on the kitchen table in front of the range tonight. Toasty & warm. Nice pictures Wheelman.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Wow, Michael, those are some great reference pictures . . . I like the look of all those chains hanging from above. Very cool. Thanks for sharing them with us!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 It sure is pure eye candy. Wow. I keep coming back to these pics . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 OH THE WEATHERING IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! OH THE WEATHERING IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! OH THE WEATHERING IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! --Doctor Cranky a la Jack Nicholson!
sobpinstriping Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Keep up the great work it looks fantastic, I cannot wait to see it finished
Dr. Cranky Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 It's been a very slow process, and have tried really hard to keep it this side of all-out-gunk. I like where this is headed. I've also started to apply a few details here and there . . . I applied a few washes to the cinder blocks and then lots of chipping on the walls . . . and then used the airbrush to fog it all together . . .
vaughn Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Looks good Cranky. You could do this and you could do that but to me it looks good. Its your own little world. Edited December 15, 2010 by vaughn
Dr. Cranky Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks, Terry . . .yes, but I'm also trying to stay open to all the great ideas everyone has been sending my way . . . Here are a few more shots . . . All the signage is freshly glued on so I still have to weather them as well . . .
vaughn Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I know. OK then... dont you think the brick work is still way too clean? And I am sure you still have not finished the final details. Right? If they are ever finished!!! Still looks great. Where ever you stop.
Tony T Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Something to ponder, Cranky...bird nests...swallows, or whatever...they'd get in and nest about anywhere in those metal roof beams. Love where you are going with this...keep going, and keep the pictures coming! Wow! As for weather...It snowed today, I used my snowblower after dinner...temps were around -10 degrees Celsius (about 12F), wind chills around -20C (around 0 F). (It hasn't even gotten cold here yet...That will feel like shirt-sleeve weather in late January!) I love to paint in winter...no humidity!! Heat the spray can with warm water, head outside, spray, leave the model to dry in the cold garage overnight, then being it inside in the morning. Sometimes I just bring it into the basement to dry.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks, chaps . . . yes there will be more weathering . . .I got to bring in more dirt in particular around the bottom edges of the walls and cinder blocks . . . I love the idea of the bird nests . . . yes, there's got to be a few of those . . . Here's some more progress. As I said from post one, the idea behind this is to have different elements just to change things up a little here and there whenever I take pics of a new build . . . and also to just plain have fun . . . I made this boiler type thing just to break up the space . . . and also to have yet another element . . .
Clay Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 :o :o (That's my speechless face ) Great Job Doc!!!
charlie8575 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I like that boiler, Virgil. Where did you find it, or how did you make it? This is truly a masterpiece, and what modeling is all about. Charlie Larkin
sobpinstriping Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I really like the graffiti you added but it seems a little bit too small, I used to paint graff and it would be pretty tough to spray something that small with a can, I think it would look good if you had a big spray bomb on the outside, I wasn't trying to say any thing bad but just give you my opinion, you're work is amazing!
runsw/scissors Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Cranky, you build faster than I can read. This is a great project. Looking forward to seeing this one through to the end. Edited December 15, 2010 by runsw/scissors
Dr. Cranky Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks, everyone. Mat, thank you for the graffiti comment. The reason it looks small is that it's a graffiti sheet used for HO scale trains. I gotta work a bit around it with the airbrush and make it a bit truer to scale. This is good indication that you have a good eye for the right scale. Thanks for keeping me honest. There's still lots more to do on this base, so stay tuned in for more . . . more. . . more . . .
crazyjim Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 The boiler looks to me like an upside down pill bottle. I can't believe the stuff you're able to do, Dr. Cranky. Looks fantastic.
vaughn Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 For a second there,I thought I was looking at more reference pictures. You gotta be happy with this one. Just marvelous!!
