Foxer Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Those metal floor plates now look like they belong .. poured into the floor when it was fresh. It all looks great!
vaughn Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 You gotta be gettin excited now. I think you've got all of us on edge! Great ideas and great stuff !! Now get to rustin !
Dr. Cranky Posted December 8, 2010 Author Posted December 8, 2010 Thanks, Terry--yes, I'm getting everything in primer and then I will begin the painting process . . . hopefully I will have this one done in a week or so . . .
Harry P. Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I'd have my lawyers going after the guys who poured that concrete floor!
Danno Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I'd have my lawyers going after the guys who poured that concrete floor! There's a problem with that; the cracks in the floor are BECAUSE his lawyers are UNDER the floor. Cranky's true name before witness protection was ...
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Hoffa, my lips are sealed . . . . Here are a few more progress pics . . . I am really psyched about this base . . . As you can see, the primer has gone on . . . I've also decided to keep the front of the warehouse clutter free and then make the back really gunky, junked and cluttered . . . and it's begun . . .there going to be some nasty puddles back here too . . .
crazyjim Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Yo Dr. Crank - I just thought of something (and the headache is comin' on). What about some tire marks on the concrete - like somebody did a burnout leaving the shop?
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Jim, I thought about that, but I gotta figure out how to do it. Initially I thought of chucking a tire on the Dremel and doing it that way, but that would only tear up the plaster . . . Any ideas . . . I guess I can try to see if it would work with the airbrush . . .
crazyjim Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Sorry Cranky, I have no idea how to do it but thought it might be a good addition. Who can resist lighting them up on a nice piece of concrete? I don't don't even know what's used at the tracks anymore. Last I knew it was bleach but Pinks seems to use plain old water in the burnout box. I'm sure you'll be able to come up with something that look just fantastic.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Maybe one of those polisher/buffer heads chucked into the Dremel at a low speed and then add paint? Perhaps charcoal stick . . . gotta experiment . . .
old-hermit Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Nice dio so far Crank. I made burnt rubber tracks on a dragstrip dio by mounting two wheels & tires on a metal axle, running it through a flat black wash and rolling it over the pavement.
Harry P. Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Virgil, if the mood strikes you, you might want to add a couple of floor drain grates for a little visual interest.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Harry, that's a great idea . . . I think I will add those here and there . . . and they will add interest. I need to break out the larger drill bits! Old-Hermit, I like the idea . . . I will try it too!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Harry, here are a couple of drain grates for ya . . . I made them with a paper punch, and guess what? After two perfect punched out screen circles, the hole puncher broke on me. So there are only two drains, buddy . . . I hope that will do.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Here's a bit more trash, and Cranky's signature . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Okay, so if there's trash and drainage, then it's mandatory to have some sort of liquid or industrial ooze puddling and moving out . . . I am using two part resin stained with acrylics . . . and I am hoping it will smooth out flatter than this . . .I am keeping my fingers crossed. Of course, after I poured it, I realized I should have used the airbrush to shadow in a little bit of depth . . . but you can't win them all, right?
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 After the resin dries, I will come back around the edges with a little bit of gloss acrylic medium to break up the edges a big more . . . the ooze is looking to congealed and even right now . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Sure, I knew that sooner or later someone would come over and peel rubber on my industrial warehouse concrete . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 See what I mean? Was it you, Jairus?
Harry P. Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I love the toxic waste flowing into the drain... nice touch!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Thanks, Harry, but I am holding my breath in hopes that the resin settles down into the plaster . . . otherwise it is going to look like goop instead of industrial ooze!
Clay Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I hate the fact that I can only see a few pictures at work...
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Clay, all the pictures are in my Fotki archives . . . if you still have a hankering. Most of the time I just post a few here . . . BTW--I am happy to report that the two part resin ooze is flattening down which makes Cranky really happy!
Clay Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Its not the fact you post a few pictures, its that only 1 or no pictures show up on my end, I can see them fine at home. I will have to look at your album when I get home.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 Oh I see, for a minute I thought you were having severe CPWS--Cranky Picture Withdrawal Symptoms! Everything is now in primer drying, so painting will begin soon! Stay tuned in for the next episode out of . . . DR. CRANKY'S LAB-RAT-ORY!!!
