impcon Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Just went to upload some pictures to Photobucket and yup! The geeks have been at it and took what was a nice, functional, easy to use, simple format and made it complictated. It worked - why is it that when something works, some one takes it upon themselves to complicate it and make it complex with bells and whistles that most simple folk never will use in a hundred years?? Why? Why? There must be a reason why??? A video on the page.. what's that all about? Who needs it? Just something else to have take up bandwidth... Oh, I'll calm down and get used to this "new way of doing things" but I sure am getting tired of everything being complicated and this new "information age" and it's "conveniences". It seems these days that if something is simple, many people can't grasp it but if it's complicated.. then it's "oh yeah! That's cool!!" You guys ever get the feeling that the world has passed the older generation by and left us in the dust?
whale392 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Photobucket has to make money for the 'free' image hosting somehow....so they bring you bandwidth-killing commercials and pop-up ads! I agree with you; leave the darn system alone. Seems every week it gets harder to link pics from my album, and forget about uploading them if you don't 'Go Pro'.
evilone Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Im going to agree with you 100% i just got my account back then presto i was instantly lost. It took me like 20mins to figure out what to do and another 15 mins to download the bulk up loader. Why they decide to spiff it up is beyond me so i'm not going to waste time trying to figure out their reasons.
Harry P. Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I don't see any problems with the revised site. Yeah, it's different... but just as easy to use as ever, if not more so. And if you want to continue to enjoy their service for free, you have to understand that they have to make money somehow. Their employees have to be paid. So rather than charge us, the users, they run paid ads. What's the problem with that??? PS: Evilone, the bulk uploader is the link right below "upload now." How did it take you 15 minutes to find it???
Joe Handley Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Once I figured it out, it seems to work better than the last set up. I don't like the way the main menu is laid out though, the set up that they had a year or so was better and easier to use.....at least for me
Clay Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Or you could just check out my topic on how to use photobucket in the tips section
impcon Posted December 18, 2010 Author Posted December 18, 2010 Please don't get me wrong guys - I really do appreciate the service and all, but for those of us who are not so computer literate, these changes can be inconvenient and they really do not seem to make things any easier for us. I guess that I just aint big on change - the system worked fine before - why mess with it? Now to get the link to post pictures here for instance, you have to click on the photo to enlarge it and then the link is copyable from the box on the right side of the screen. So it's now two extra steps that were not there before.. I mean, two extra steps isn't the end of the world but to my way of thinking, they screwed sopmething up that worked just fine the way that it was. I guess the geeks and code writers have to justify their existance on the planet somehow... *sighs* Well no matter what - they should have left well enough alone. AT least that's my opinion.....
Clay Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 With mine, all I have to do is hover the pointer over the picture and the links appear.
cody Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I went back to fotki. I had an account there until a few years ago. I switched to photobucket because it was free. I just recently went back to fotki. No ads. No popups. Very simple to use and I really like how albums and folders can be organized. Well worth the $25 a year to me.
DRG Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 (edited) Admittedly I was a little confused at first when dealing with the new way. But after a few moments I really have no problem with the new and improved image hosting. Besides it's still free. Edited December 18, 2010 by Donald Gardner
sjordan2 Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I like the fact that the new version doesn't require highlighting the link then copying; you just click on the link and it's automatically copied for you to paste in your post.

I mean, two extra steps isn't the end of the world but to my way of thinking, they screwed sopmething up that worked just fine the way that it was. Doesn't work that way for me. All I do is hover my pointer over the IMG code and it copies it automatically. It's actually one LESS step now to post pictures. You might want to upgrade to a better and more current browser. Web sites change all the time as web technology changes, and if you're looking at a new site through an old browser, the old browser might not be able to display the site correctly and may not be able to work the site's features correctly (or even "see" the features at all!) I recommend Firefox. It's free, it works great, and once you install it it automatically updates itself constantly... so you'll always be running a browser with the latest features and capabilities.
