gunner Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 It has been many yrs since I've built anything, I found this kit at a local thrift store for $2. It has been very hard to find any reference pics for this but the few I have found each show different set ups. A very quick mock up My attempt at some kit bashing with adding wire for the shocks and other detail wires. Let me know what you think, good or bad
Modelmartin Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Just wanted to let you know that you have the plug wires coming out of the fuel distributor. The magneto is the verticle round piece that the fuel distributer mounts to. The wires shuld come out each side in bundles of four near the top of the magneto. Plug wires on that car were black. The Fuel injection lines come out of the same place your current plug wires do and go to the base of each fuel injecter tube. They should be clear plastic like thin fishing line. I did extensive research on these cars several years ago. Don't even start on the dry sump oil system!

What size fishing line would be proper scale? Are there any good pics around that might give me a clue as to how the engine bay really looks?
gunner Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) Quick update, I changed the wiring for the engine and put the first coat of primer on the body, I do have one question, How long should I wait after spraying primer before sanding? I will post pics later today on the new progress. Edited January 11, 2011 by gunner
gunner Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Some updates from today I redid the wiring on this, I hope it looks better now First coat of primer, been sitting for a week, should be ready for sanding. Going to use Model Master Grabber Orange, closest I could find to match the online pics.
gunner Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Quick update, 3rd and final coat of primer, mounted the engine. Not to bad for my first car in many yrs.
Slowpoke Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Coming along nicely..and that's a hard kit to build. I wanna see the wheels on it! Over the years I've begun to notice how important stance can be. More, more, more.
gunner Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 I tried to get a lot more done this weekend, I got the first coat of yellow on the body and more of the engine area done. I painted the molded seat belts, i'd like to add some P/E belts but can't figure out how to mount them, lots more detail painting to go in this area, the pic looks like ###### I added some brake line and other detail, how does it look? side view for the "stance" still more to do before fronts go on
Kanedge Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Looking really good. The yellow looks super smooth, is that airbrush or spray can?

Brokentail58 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Great looking build. I think about buying that kit every time I see it. What thrift store did u get it at ? I hit all the thrift stores around Grand Rapids but I missed that one.

Jantrix Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Great work. I haven't seen that kit in a long time. And I just now realize, that would make a cool little Batmobile.
gunner Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 Worked for 2 hrs on this dash, added some scratch switches, hope they look good. Thanks for looking
Bastardo Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 ...added some scratch switches, hope they look good... Nope - they look great Nice work with all the details and wireing on this tiny thing, m8!
LAone Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 haha, i like how the box says "big 1/20 scale" old school. i just got a mpc datsun 620 truck california sunshine, im impressed with the detail for it being such an old kit. great looking build. dont know how i missed this. the paint looks pretty smooth for it being a can. i too shoot with cans and often can get it smooth.
gunner Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Added some more detail. made a complete shift linkage when the kit had nothing. Also added a tach line and gas line. scratch made U-joint, as close as I could make to scale. view of full linkage, matches all the pics I've seen of this car.
classic Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Hi Sean, your model is looking very neat. I see you used Eduard etch belts? They certainly look better than the moulded in ones. This is going to look great when its done. Regards, Steve.
