Missing in Action Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Hi y'all! This is an attempt at building a nearly correct TV series 1974 Kenworth W-900 Tractor. The only difference is that the real truck was stretched 2 feet and 4 bag air ride was added in place of the leaf spring rears. mine is stretched to match it,however, mine is Cat 3406 powered vs.cummins in the real truck.I started with the Aerodyne kit and after some cuttin' and fittin',I have what matches fairly close to the real truck...If the pic's don't stay "posted",this is my PHOTOBUCKET link.http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k269/ROY1964/ Here it is so far...
Nova-ss Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) it looks good,I don't know what you are going to replicate as far as which movin on truck.I was told by a Kenworth dealer ship that that truck was a VIT and if that is so then it should have a torsion bar suspension under it.and I don't remember the movin on truck having a headache rack on it....but it looks great the way it is.maybe it could be how the truck would looks today...I don't know but good work.thanks,Chris Edited January 14, 2011 by Nova-ss
highway Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 maybe it could be how the truck would looks today... That's right Chris, Roy is building a sort of modern day truck. He found the same site I did where I found these pics. The replica/rebuild does have air suspension, and if I remember correctly, it's actually a Pete setup. If I'm guessing right after seeing your junkyard B.J. & the Bear truck Roy, you wouldn't happen to be replicating this by chance?
Missing in Action Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Hey Chris!! The truck is being built as it is on the road today. Paul Sagehorn owns the truck and uses the truck regularly...Along with his father Craig who operates the 1980 K-100c BJ and the Bear truck(the last one used in the tv show).Sorry I left that info out!! You should go to www.tvtruckin.com and view both trucks. Thanks Roy
Missing in Action Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Thanks Matt, That's exactly what i'm doin'!!!
highway Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Thanks Matt, That's exactly what i'm doin'!!! COOL! I can't wait to see it!
camarobuilder Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) I've got the DVD set of Movin On, which has every episode they did. I've used it for referance. The real truck you have pictures IS NOT the TV truck... It's one someone built as a copy. I found many of those inaccurate pictures when I first starting doing research, too. I believe that one is owned by a man who also has a BJ and the Bear truck. His BJ truck is a TV original, though. The TV trucks frame wasn't stretched that extremely. As already mentioned, the TV truck never had a headache rack. It did have the Cummins engine. I'm building the Revell W-900 for my replica. It also has the incorrect Cat, and the frame is a little short. These are the REAL TV trucks Frank Edited January 14, 2011 by camarobuilder
Missing in Action Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Thanks again Matt,I need to get out more,LOL!! Too many projects not enuf' time...
Missing in Action Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Hey Frank!! I hate to bust your bubble, but, the truck was stretched years after the show to carry large grain containers! The dash placque from NBC is still there!! It's the real thing!!!
Missing in Action Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Hey Frank, GO TO www.tvtruckin.com....please!!!
drinkone2 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Looking real nice!! I always loved that show. Where can I get the DVD set?? Jim
Jim B Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Nice looking replica. I like the green. I've only seen one episode & part of the Pilot that were on YouTube, but I've wanted to build this truck for a long time. what's under the hood of your freinds truck? Was it repowered? I heard (somewhere) that Sonny said he had a Cummins VT903, but I don't know if all of the show trucks had them. Some might have had the NTC350. Jim, check eBay for the DVD set. I saw it there last week.
camarobuilder Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) Ahhh...Ok. That makes sense. I knew it was longer than the TV truck, though. I bought the DVD set online. It has all the episodes, including the pilot (In Tandem). The DVD set was expensive. The original tapings of the show got destroyed in a fire, where they were stored. The DVD set is all contributions from private collectors. The quality of some of the episodes is really bad. Some look like they were taped from a TV with a bad set of rabbit ears, and one is even in black and white. Frank Edited January 14, 2011 by camarobuilder
clayton Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I remember a few years ago that the warehouse in Holly wood Burt too the ground, they lost 1000's of old move's going back to the 1920 or so,most of them had no copy. Guess the Movin on was one of them since there depending on a out side source.
camarobuilder Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 ...Just checked. The DVD set I've got is going for $250 on E BAY.My link Frank

I saw it there last week. Hey Jim!!! mine currently has a 3406 CAT,But, I'm trying to put a trade together with Dennis TO GET A V903 and 475 Twin turbo Cummins engines. The real truck is considerably "repowered"!!! Not sure of the engine size...But it has 700HP!!!!!The studio used several trucks during filming... Some were NTC350'S and one was a V903...and Claude Akins could easily tell the difference when he drove them!!! I hope that helps... THANKS FOR ALL THE COMPLIMENTS FROM EVERYONE'S INPUT!!! Thanks Roy
Jim B Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I just picked up a VT903 from Nigel at Auslowe. It's quite nice. I'mm planning on using it on my Movin' On W900 whenever I get around to building it. Hopefully Jim at Jbot will be back online soon so I can get the decals. Seven hunders horsepower! Wow! I bet that pulls nicely. Wait a sec. Dennis? Dennis who?

Jim, try Jerry at Modeltruckin, he has some Movin On style stripes on his site. Here's a pic of them I found there. He does them in multiple colors, so you can get a set to match the Movin On truck.
