Jantrix Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I'm running a year restricted CBP on another forum. What would be my best source of information regarding when certain models of aftermarket rims were available? I wish I have some Hot Rod mags from the late 70's but I don't. Really could use some help here.
ra7c7er Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 First thing I would do is figure out what wheel brands were available at that time. Many wheel designs are iconic to brands so the same wheel you could buy today in a store is the same wheel they could have been selling for 40 or 50 years. Once you have that list I think is all about finding old dealer brochures and calling places. Old mags are right on the money for finding out what would have been available. Craigslist can usually net some old magazines but people might want some money for them.
Eric Stone Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Maybe see if your local library has any old car mags available to check out or at least look at. See if you can buy up old mags on eBay for less than a mint. Hot Rod and Car Craft would be great. With a little bit more info, folks here might be able to help. What type of build and what year are you shooting for? Any preferences on wheel types?
Jantrix Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 Eric, it is a Cannonball CPB and all the cars must be 1981 in model year, technology and syling, as if it could have been featured in the movie released that year.
Eric Stone Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 So you can use stuff that's older than '81, but nothing newer..?
Jantrix Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 So you can use stuff that's older than '81, but nothing newer..? Yepper. Dat's the fact, Jack!
Eric Stone Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I'd say you're pretty safe going with parts from any 70s kit...
