Jared Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 so i've been working on this project for a while now. started out i was just going to lower and add some differnt wheels. as time went on it got more and more complex, as most projects do. i'm now to the point where i'm doing a full replica build of my 1:1 '61. so far i have really focused on the roof. the kit comes with a weird ragtop thats not right for the year of the car. so i thought i would just make my own that was right. again one thing lead to another and now i have a full wokring ragtop... also did a replica roll cage... and a replica of my firewall. it's Damascened or "engine turned." also did a few little things. correct year tail lights, euro bumpers and such. comments and questions welcome!!
Randy Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Very nice Jared!!! I need to make those same tail lights for my build. Love the rag, much nicer than the chunk of plastic that comes in the kit.
LDO Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Nice work, Jared. Pre-'67 Bug with 911 alloys. Great combo. Man, you're gonna convince me to get rid of one of my real Mustangs and get an oval-window Bug.
Zoom Zoom Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Looks great so far, I'm a big fan of vintage VW's like this. 8)
kod38 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 awesome rag !! The Fuchs wheels are great. Are you gonna modify the engine? Any color ideas? Not trying to hijack your thread, but here is a 56 I just did. More pics please. Doug R

Doug R awsome car!! love that you put camber int he rear as most people forget about with old VW's. i should be getting some more pics up soon. i haven't had a lot of time to build in the past few days, so no progress. the engine will be pretty much stock looking. only mods will be header/ custom exahust tip and a velocity stack on the small carb. i may do some some other mods with tranny and suck with supports to make it like it's got a drag ready set-up. we'll see
jbwelda Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 that camber looks a bit much even for a vw...kinda looks like my ghia when i broke an axle! cool looking rag top too.
Jared Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 that camber might be too much but it's pretty close to something that low. if you ask me. thats some pertty major camber there and it's not as low as his model! just something to keep in mind.

True and thanks. Was not trying to steal the thread, just a fan. By the way,I am doing a baja tamiya ghia and found some great webber carbs and k&n air filters. I hope it comes out ok. There was a Pro street Revell corvette from the hot rod series of kits. It has 2 great webbers and 2 air cleaners. Also the Monogram sprint cars have killer k&N filters. Please keep us posted on your awesome build. Doug R
