How to clean up mold In a 1:1

Hwy everyone. I just got this 1999 Dodge Neon from a friend dirt cheap. One problem is the car has been sitting and something spilled on the passenger rear floor and caused mold to form. Is there any product you can recommend that will not bleach the color of the carpet and kill the mold? I have a good wet/dry vac but I want to kill this and fast. Any Ideas would be helpful thanks.

I am not trying to scare you but if the mold has been in the car sitting and spreading it could be all over the car and not just in the one carpet spot. Every time you turn on the heater or AC you are effectively blowing mold spores all over the car including on yourself.

If you want to try and clean it yourself I would use hydrogen peroxide. If the mold has been in the car for a long while I would clean the whole car with it.

Also you will want to change the cabin air filter as mold spores might be growing on that too.

The cabin air filter (if applicable to this car) was mentioned- you might also want to think about cleaning the HVAC ducts. Mold is pretty insideous, and it can get into places you'd never expect. I know this because my '96 Plymouth Neon was pretty much INFESTED with the stuff when I got it.

PULL THE SEATS OUT , TAKE THE CARPET TO A CAR WASH AND HIT IT WITH HIGH PRESSURE SOAP THEN RINSE. THEN HANG IT UP TO DRY. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REPLACE THE PADDING AND IF THE CARS SEE IF THE CAR LEAKS ALL THAT HAD TO COME FROM SOMEWHERE.

Thanks for the comments eveyone. The car is pretty dry. Just something spilled on the passenger side of the car, It's here in Phoenix and has only been sitting for about a month and a half. The girl I bought it off of mostly rides a motorcycle. Anyway I remember fighting bad mold up in Washington state and this is no where that bad thank goodness. I'll check to see if it has a cabin filter I would have forgot about that. Thanks again!
