stewart Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) I finally got the photoetch saws by MCG. Detail Master was out and didn't contact me until a couple weeks after my order. Don't know what's with that. So I ordered them from Scale Dreams Friday and got them today. They work very well. All of the doors and the hood have been removed and the body will be ready for paint very soon. I also cut out the moon roof and used one of the moon roof frames from another kit. The old window had sink marks on it so I cut out a new one from clear styrene. I also finished modifying the grille. I added a new surround and as soon as I have stripped the chrome off and painted it with alclad, I am going to install a wire mesh center section. STewart Edited March 18, 2011 by stewart
stewart Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) The interior is nearly complete. I added a strip of the leopard decal to the dash for continuity. I also put a photoetched air vent on, added backs to the dash-top gauges and wired them. Still have to put on photo-etched radio and AC faces. I built up a steering wheel I had from MAS and made my own steering column from aluminum tubing and made a shifter from styrene rod and a little brass tubing. As an extra touch, I made a small coffee thermos from aluminum tubing and plastic and put it in one of the cup-holders. STewart Edited March 18, 2011 by stewart
RodneyBad Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Interior is coming along nicely. You cut it all apart, again? PE Blades look nice
stewart Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 Thanks Rodney. Yes I cut it all apart. Thankfully it did not fall apart this time. I am just now getting the grille ready for alclad. I am also starting the preliminary steps for cutting off the door panels and gluing them on the doors. STewart
stewart Posted March 20, 2011 Author Posted March 20, 2011 The interior needs a little more photo etch and it will be done. I cut out the door panels and have just begun fitting them. However, I realized that I would need to first paint the body, glue in the interior bucket, and then figure out where the inside panels go on the doors. So I am beginning the process of painting the body. Color will be Boyd's pearl orange and the base coat is gold. More updates on the way. STewart
RodneyBad Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Well, with the doors off, you can place in the interior tub and trace the door line onto the tub. Then cut it just on the inside of those lines.
stewart Posted March 20, 2011 Author Posted March 20, 2011 I already have the interior door panels cut off. My problem is where I need to put them on the doors because I don't have a definite reference point of where to put the interior panels on the exterior doors. I need to know and the easiest way I think is to have the interior tub in place. Will see. Stewart
stewart Posted March 22, 2011 Author Posted March 22, 2011 I have the body mostly painted. It just needs some clear and it will be done. Painted it with Boyd's orange pearl. I have the grille mostly finished but the bumper needs a coat of alclad chrome. Still working on the interior. Going to start putting "goodies" in the back so I can install the bucket once the body work is done. STewart
RodneyBad Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 paint job looks Sharp and nice color too. Sunroof hole looks good with the trim. Nice looking custom grill too.
stewart Posted March 22, 2011 Author Posted March 22, 2011 Have a little more done. I started putting on the decals from the kit and have the interior pretty much complete. However, I ran into a glitch with the decals. They were old and instead of laying down nicely, they wrinkled badly and have areas of slightly opaque white which is the glue I am assuming. Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this? I would really like to use these decals. The hood decal went on fine. Probably because it is just smaller. STewart
stewart Posted March 22, 2011 Author Posted March 22, 2011 Almost all of the parts are on the shelves in the back. I made a strapping system with a strip of styrene with holes drilled into it every 1/4" and glued onto the sides of the interior. I made small hooks out of wire and used black masking tape for straps. You can sort of see it holding up the upright axle and steering arm in next to the shelving. Interior basically complete. Have to finish the seat belts but that is all. STewart
Foxer Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 That paint looks great! The decals looks good on the van ,, never seen these. I'd try using Micro Sol to get the decals set down. Use a pin hole where air may be trapped. I love all the parts in the interior.
walt francis Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 This is the kit they came from. I still have mine but in some what rough shape
stewart Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 Might be a good idea to use micro sol. I have micro set but that is all. Will try to get some. STewart
stewart Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 Very good news. Last night, I put future on the decals because I have heard that it works well for fixing decals that won't set right. After I got home from work today, I went out and looked at the body and it looks much better. Most of the wrinkles were gone and the decals were clear. I just have to work out the few remaining wrinkles. STewart
RodneyBad Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 (edited) Looks a lot like mine but my head liner fell down. Not any more tho. Great looking Interior. Love all the Lil Goodies in it Looks like a good shop truck. Sorry, I don't know what ever happen to my decals. That was over 20yrs ago Good to hear the decals are starting to set up. stewart Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 I found a link to an article, and I believe it was on this forum, about all the things future could do. There was a lot of stuff that I was very surprised at. However, I did not save the link in my favorites and unfortunately cannot find it. STewart
brett Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) Not sure where you'll find the link, but its called the " the complete future" Edited March 24, 2011 by brett
crazyjim Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 You can google future and find the article that way.
stewart Posted March 26, 2011 Author Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) Have a lot done. The interior bucket is in and I am working on the door hinges. They are glued in and I now need to glue the doors on. This is the first time I have done anything like this so I will see how it turns out. I used a paper clip and plastic tubing to make them. I still have a little to do on the grille but it has been sprayed with alclad. Here is a mockup with the wheels sitting in place. The hood is sitting funny so that it doesn't fall inside. Here is the engine bay. I still need to add details. Fortunately, I have a van of my own to go on and see what I need to put in it. The engine still needs its dual K&N air filters and a few other odds and ends before it is done. STewart Edited March 27, 2011 by stewart
Custom Hearse Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Looks great Stewart! Looking forward to seeing more!
