Iron Fist Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Hey all, Spent enough time browsing the forums so I thought I would final post a WIP. Lowered and chopped(first chop btw) Cut the doors to bring back the a-pillar to match the roof. Front wheels are off a 60 Impala which is in the works,Impala body just finished its second brake fluid bath!! Going to get it primed tonight. Does anyone know what big block engine comes with the Revell 32 Ford 5 Window kit? I can't place it, it looks like a make shift Hemi. Here's what got me back into modelling. AMT 68 Shelby that I bought in 05, forgot about it and decided to finish it in Dec 10, now I have the modelling bug again. Noticed the decals are falling off lol, they were very brittle. Bought and finished the 68 Cobra Jet in Jan. For both cars on the window trim and rocker panels I use 3M aluminum tape that is used in the HVAC industry for sealing duct work and refrigeration lines. I dont recommend using this as a roll is expensive but it was in my tool box and saved me from going out and buying BMF. Justin
Iron Fist Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 The alternate engine in that 5 Window coupe kit is indeed a replica of a Hemi, but of a first generation, (1951–1958), Hemi & not the more familiar second generation Hemi. It has generic finned valve covers instead of the standard "Chrysler FirePower" ones. Thanks, I have a 426 hemi from the Revell 68 Charger that I think I may try to fit in, cheers.
Iron Fist Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 Got the body primed, Testors primer through an old Paasche VL. Can someone recommend a good seam filler (putty) I bought the Testors putty but it isn't worth the tube it came in, thanks. I'm already thinking I have to buy another one of these, they are too much fun.

I'm opting a for sencond gen 426 (no replacement for displacement) Photoshopped in the rear white walls as I plan on painting them on, just want to see how it would look. Going to try my hand at photoetching a header flange for scratch build headers.
Erik Smith Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Looking really nice. A nice angry angle to the chop. This is a nice kit - worthy of multiple purchases. The 32 Sedan is equally nice (in fact it shares some parts). I like the choice in power plant too.
MikeMc Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 For your seam filler, use 2 part bondo glazing putty.....I like the shortening of the body for the chop..any interior issues?
Iron Fist Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 For your seam filler, use 2 part bondo glazing putty.....I like the shortening of the body for the chop..any interior issues? I will be sure to pick up some glazing putty (for next time, change of plans) thanks. There were no issues with the interior (used a 0.82mm hack saw blade), even if there had it would have been an easy fix by removing material from either the front or back of the interior floor panel. I wasn't sure what to do with this untill I picked up the April/11 issue of HotRod magazine. This is my first attempt at weathering, let me know what you think. (quick mock up) Removed the gas tank, I think it gives it more of an aggresive look, I will put a filler cap on as if there was a fuel cell in the trunk.
Iron Fist Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Progressing slowly; got the windows in, tinted the back and sides (used window tint). I found a set of front wheels from the 68 Cobra Jet, they were a perfect match, I only had to drill the back of the rims out to bring them in closer.
diymirage Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 looks good dont forget to give the front grille enclosuresome weathering aswell i like the matched rims a lot better as for the first engine , i think that is a repop of the old 392 desoto firedome hemi but by putting the generic valvecovers on there revell saved itself from having to license it as a mopar product IMHO that is the only engine to put in any rod that doesnt have a hood but the 426 definatly screams power
LAone Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 sweet looking rod. i like it with the matched wheels as well. the impala wheels really didnt go with the flow. but i liked the photoshopped rear white walls, are you still doing that?

Thanks, I wasn't too fond of the Impala wheels either but I wanted to run a skinny tire up front, I was looking through my old model boxes as I keep the spare parts in the original box looking for a gas cap an ran across these, I was glad when I saw they were a perfect match. I'm not too sure if I will do white walls. I white walled one of the rears when I still had the Impala wheels on and I didn't care for the look (looked better in photoshop). I will try again with the new front tires but I'm undecided on whether it will stay.
Foxer Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I like your solution for the B pillars ... and the rake of the top looks good.. aggressive even.
Iron Fist Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Finally found a carpet I like, I am not a fan of flocking (too much work for mediocre results) The carpet is from a watch case (one of my wife's she doesn't know), it still had the adhesive on when I peeled it off the casing, stuck it on and trimmed. The seats are out of a Maisto 1/24 Cobra, I just filled a hole and did two tone paint. Aluminum tape for sealing duct work was used for the floor tunnel and interior back, used a scotch brite pad to dull the finish. (theres an oxymoron) I did a flat black under coating on the white door panels to try and give an older appearance. Edited March 1, 2011 by Iron Fist
Iron Fist Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 Made my own decals, I really like how they turned out. Just finished the dash. Still have to wire the engine(distributor is wired)and make some headers.
