Greg Myers Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I've got all sorts of different sizes and types but I always go back to the small Exacto. I got a great multi blade and handle set from Lowes a while back and just can't bring myself to open it up and use the handle, just looks too bulky.
slantasaurus Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I have several X-acto and Excel #1 (thin) handles that I use with #11 blades, I have found that the #2 handle (fat one) is great for mini drill bits. Last year a friend got me a set from Home Depot and I hate to say it but I haven't used it yet........
moparmagiclives Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I always reach for the old standard handle. feels like a pencile in my hand. Just kinda natural. My wife asks me why I have so many styles, and I havent quite figured out a good answer to that one yet.
SSNJim Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I prefer the non-roll soft coated handles, preferably in different colors so I can remember whether it's the knife for BMF or the general use knife. Excel is one manufacturer, and X-Acto's Gripster is another. I've got several ranging from the gen-u-wine X-Acto to Excel to the dollar-store set handles. Each has different characteristics, and different blades.

MikeMc Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 The # 1 handle , as I have 4 of them. I use no handle for BMF..black sharpie on a new tip, wrap of masking tape to make a grip.
Longbox55 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I'll Second that. Same here. BTW, I have a few of those sets form Lowes, the handle isn't as bad as one would think.
Dragline Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I'm going to try the "no handle" thing for BMF on my 60 Starliner build. It has more BMF than I care to think about and I need a.... wait for it... EDGE....... Bob
Mark Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I can't remember the last time I bought a new X-Acto handle. At automotive swap meets or even flea markets, often you can find them on a "10 cents each" tarp or box where someone lays everything out and leaves a coffee can for payment on the honor system. These will often have X-Acto handles in them. They get put aside when the blade gets broken off in the handle. Dip the blade end of the handle in penetrating oil, let soak overnight, disassemble next day, insert new blade. For the #11 blade, I prefer the skinny handle.
