Dave B Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 I wanted to build a reasonable representation of Jim Halls GS. Using Dave Friedman's Corvette Grand Sport book for reference I removed the oil cooler from the rear deck, pancaked the bonnet bulge to lower it & modified around the grill area. Finished it off using VRM decals (again). I have another to build yet (Mecom car) but am NOT looking forward to spraying the stripes over the bonnet vents!!! I have a Model Car Garage detail set & more VRM decals for that one though. That will be a while as I'm currently working on back casting the Mecom Lola GT MkVI. Tks for looking Dave B
James2 Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Reasonable? I'd say. Great looking model right there!
ChrisR Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Nice build. Pity Accurate Miniature's are no longer producing models.
torinobradley Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Wonderful build of a fairly cantankerous kit. Looks like you did it justice! I love the GSs and the book is great just to look at and get inspired. My GS is still sitting on the bench but I am making slow progress on it. I got all the HRM, VRM and MCG stuff for it. I like how you removed the side vents as well. Great attention to detail!
Phildaupho Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Looks fantastic. This is the version I plan to build because of the more simple livery and hood. I find it very interesting that this car required no hood openings while all the other Grandsports had maybe the most elaborate assortment of hood venting ever used on a racecar.
maltsr Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 That's a great piece of work, I too have one in the 'to build' pile, still haven't plucked up the courage to start it
Dave B Posted February 26, 2011 Author Posted February 26, 2011 Tks for the comments guys, it really wasn't bad to build and am looking forward to my next one (except the stripes). I built another #67 previous to this with the MCG detail kit for a friend in the States & that was a bit tedious, all that work on the chassis & you can't see it!!!! It is a shame Accurate Miniatures stopped car models, as I commented elsewhere I was really looking forward to the 289 Cobra FIA roadster. Regards Dave B
