ra7c7er Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) I am trying to replicate (loosely) the yard wrecker at a local junk yard and I need a a two ton or one ton wrecker. All I can seem to find are expensive kits and the horrendously overpriced (well they are all overpriced) DOH wrecker. Are their any non-snap wreckers that I should look for that will be under the $30 dollar mark? Also considering the recent influx of AMT semi kits and Revell bringing out new semis is there any chance some wreckers might follow? It's been a while since one has been issued. Anyone have any insider info? Edited March 11, 2011 by ra7c7er
mikemodeler Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 look around for one of the Midnite Cowboy wrecker kits. I have seen them on the bay for anywhere from $10-$30 but remember you are really just in need of the wrecker equipment. I see them at swap meets and they usually go for about $20, sometimes less. Depending on your scratchbuilding skills, you may be able to replicate what you want with some Evergreen styrene. I doubt we will see any new wrecker kits from the manufacturers, better chance of seeing something in resin.
The Modeling Hermit Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) This is based off of the Lindberg Dodge where I scratchbuilt the wrecker section, but it was pretty straightforward. This mid 50s Chevy makes an excellent junkyard wrecker, again with a simple scratchbuilt wrecker body. The boom is from the 34 Ford kit. Good luck. Edited March 11, 2011 by Kodiak Island Modeler
highway Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Robert, honestly don't knock the Revell Chevy just because it is a snaptite, it is a nicely detailed kit. The Midnight Cowboy also has a very nice bed as well. If you would like pics of the beds, I have both and would be more than happy to take pics of them for you. Unfortunately I can't help you out with one though, because if you didn't guess from my avatar pic, I'm big on wreckers!
gray07 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 There was also a yellow datsun or toyota with flip front end, they made it a 2wheel and then later on they made a monster truck wrecker
ra7c7er Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 After this thread and doing as much research as I could it looks like I need the cab forward section of the DOH wrecker and the bed of the Midnight Cowboy. I don't have any stock trucks in the year range I am looking for.
