diymirage Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) hey guys i was over at my LBS yesterday and i picked up the AMT 71 duster street machine (partially because it looked like it had a viper drivetrain) when i got home and opened it it turned out the engine is a fuel injected 340 i was just wondering if this is an actual set up or something AMT cobbled up? whale392 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Looks like a shortened Viper intake on the 340 block. Valve covers are a WTF though.
spkgibson Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 That is just the 340 with the Viper intake added, I had both of the Duster kits when they came out ,And when I seen this one,I bought 3 of them just for the engine, But, It is just the 340, I actually used the block out of this kit, Added the stock 340 parts from one of the other Duster kit, And they fit right on with no mods at all. That kit has a very nice set of Viper wheels, But the engine is just a cobbled up 340.
george 53 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Yup, it's only the 340 with a shortened Viper intake.
diymirage Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 too bad, i ws hoping it was a full viper engine (the box does say 340 though) oh well, still looks cool so, this is something AMT came up with right ? not something youd find in a jegs catalogue ?
Patrick2005 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I have this model as well and I had a Viper engine I was going to shoe horn in there but it wouldn't quite fit under the hood length wise.
diymirage Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 something else notable about this kit is that it's one of the very few cases where AMT got the wheel diameters "right" and didn't do them horribly small as they typically do with them the rest of the time. thats too bad because i have no intention of putting viper rims under anything that is not sporting a viper drivetrain im sure i got some nice open rims in the partsbox that will show of the discbrakes
Iron Fist Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) The plenum doesn't look shortend at all, still has ten intake runners, for a V8 Edited March 13, 2011 by Iron Fist
Iron Fist Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Try again. It only has eight. I've always thought this was a pretty cool engine for what it is. How many fuel injected 340s do you see anyway? This engine actually fits in better with todays times than it did when it was first introduced. One off injection systems are almost commonplace nowadays on the real pro touring cars. It always cracked me up when people would howl that it was an incorrect Viper V-10! Open your eyes, art work has ten runners, 10th partially hidden behind hose, I don't know why I'm debating to someone about toy. Edited March 14, 2011 by Iron Fist
