Old Academy copy of the Tamiya 1/20th JPS kit. As far as the quality of the kit composition, something was lost in the translation , but it worked well enough for this project.

Decals are from the 1994 IPMS National Convention, (printed from my artwork). Tamiya TS-8 and TS-11 for the body colors. Mostly out-of-the-box except for the addition of the injector lines and replacement of the rear wing plates and re-shaping of the side pods and skirts.

Absolutely beautiful work. Love that car, and that paint scheme.

Your comments on the Academy re-imagining of the Tamiya kit makes one wonder how bad it would be if Academy ripped off a lesser company's work. It's not like they didn't have a great fall-together kit in front of them to crib off of, and they still only got it partially right.

It wasn't just the parts not being rendered or fitting as well as the Tamiya "parent", but the plastic was overly brittle and there was some silicone in the plastic too.

Great resurrection, Mark. You told me what a piece of work the kit was.

The wheels appear to have been turned. I checked the photos in your WIP documentary and the wheels don't look as crisp.

Great job.

Yeah right. What does Jones know about machine work?

I could use the "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". In this case its 'Old dog; old tricks'. Too bad. He's forgotten more than I ever knew.

Not turned, glued 'em straight ahead to address the bad toe issue.

Don't turn to roll either. Glued 'em on too. Would have destroyed the front suspension using the kit mounting hardware for the wheels, the rears needed to be, I'll just say repositioned from suggested kit locations so they could reach the ground. Not a stellar kit...

If the kit is as bad as you say it is you sure made a nice batch of lemon-aid out that lemon B) I could only wish to do that good with a great kit.

Very nice, you don't see that livery too often. Actually, the only time I can recall seeing this paintjob on a model was a dodgy old Japanese diecast. Yours looks spectacular!

What else is there to say? Great job on turning a mediocre kit into a gem. Did you decant & airbrush the paint or spray it straight from the can?

I did a little of both, decanted some and airbrushed the tight and more delicate areas while utilizing the can for the larger parts and final coats. And thanks everyone!
