Guest Markus355 Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 (edited) So the shearwater hobby show was this weekend and i got my hands on the revell muscle car series 66 GTO, and the Ollllllllllllllllllld 55 chevy street machine kit (they were bundled together for 30 bucks, vs 22 bucks a kit,m i couldnt go wrong) i really only wanted the 55, but as i was looking through the gto kit, the wheels started turning and i realized just how easy this would be to convert to a straight axle car. Ill post pics tomorrow as my camera is at my folks place, but the front susppension has been donated by a thames panel gasser kit, with a scratch built front axle. I took the kit lower a arms and front cross member, glued a piece of sprue between the spindles, when dry i cut the cross member off the spindles, and voila a perfectly straight, stock track width straight axle. ill likely keep the stock rear suspension arrangement, but with some lift block to get the stance set. Engine is the kit block and heads with a 8 carb log setup from the hemiengine from the double dragster. ill end up making a set of headers from solder for it as well. mikemodeler Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Nice build! A friend of mine had one similar to that in the late '70's, painted bright silver with dark tinted windows. Was fun to drive in a straight line but was a $@#!* to steer or turn! Black velour interior that got hot despite the tinted windows as the previous owner had replaced the door glass with plexiglass windows that didn't roll down. No A/C meant short cruises in hot weather! The car had aluminum panels in the engine compartment and I remember my fingers turning black using a jar of Mother's polish shining that up! Can't wait to see yours done!
Guest Markus355 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 thanks guys, its coming along well. i sprayed the paint over the bmf on the gto scripts, hopefully ill wetsand it tonight and clear it tomorrow maybe. the engine is almost done, i just need to decide whether or not i wanna bother with making a set of puilleys from aluminum for it.
W117monte Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 This thing is BAAAAAADDDD. I love the wheels too. Nice job.
Guest Markus355 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 thanks monte. wheels are from the kit, tires from the AMT double dragster kit (that kit is such a freakin goldmine of parts.) painted over the bmf and sanded and cleared this afternoon, next is decals and assembly, i may try to tackle the headers tonight as well.
