Patrick2005 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I am working on the 99 F150 Lightning and the bed didn't come out right, its all blatchy and nasty. So I soaked in in the purple stuff for about 3 days and it did very little, the paint didn't want to come off. I had previously used the same liquid to remove paint on a couple other cars, is that my problem?
Jantrix Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Purple stuff won't touch lacquers. So if you used Testors one coat or tamiya or auto paints, you'll need some 91% rubbing alcohol.
VW Dave Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Adjacent to my vat of purple stuff, I have a similar container of Scalecoat II; that's my backup plan if the first one doesn't do it. I agree with Rob, however, for lacquers you would be hard pressed to beat the 91% isopropyl.
george 53 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Not just any alcohol,Patrick, NINETY ONE per cent. It's usually next to the 70 % rubbing alcohol at CVS or Walgreens.
graintruck Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 hey thats good advice with the 91 percent what do you do i got a model with pain i wanna remove several coats. all the way past the gloss coats to the primer right the plastic. if i use alcohol do i just soak scrub. could i get info on what to do once i get the booze haha
Carmikeman Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Scalecoat is some good stuff! kinda even etches the body. still need to lightly sand though.
