Greg Myers Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I really don't mind the way this looks, and I really wouldn't mind if it was parked in my garage. I do wonder if the owner / builder tried too hard. Looking at the picture we see all the "right stuff", Cadillac air cleaner , stock looking engine, "artillery" wheels, head lights off of who knows what. Looking down the line I see a few more cars with those headlights, maybe that company sponsored the show.I guess sometimes these things just get rolling.
LAone Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 it's just the way it is in the auto industry. it's a trend. it's like honda civics. they have gone from wild body kits, "raced out" look, back to OEM/JDM, to now the euro/cambered out deep offset wheels, slammed and rusted look. it's all a trend/fad. some follow and look the same, others stick to their roots.
Jim Gibbons Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I agree; I do have to say that the headlight solution is cool, as it allows an "elegant" way of combining parking/turn signals in the headlight bucket. I've seen a number of old rods using commercially available separate lamps that look a bit out of place. Now I'll be a bit controversial; I like "RatRods," I really do. I've seen a number that appeal to me, and I look at models posted from folks like Chuck Most that blow me away. The current trend of it in 1:1 bothers me a bit, though. Someone will spend a lot of time on a decent body design, have all the right mechanicals, yet the project looks unfinished. I guess I'm old school. An appealing paint job, maybe some scallops or pinstriping, etc. would be nice. Heck the way I look at it, if you have the expendable cash to have a toy, why not make it a bit enviable? Yes, paint is expensive, but relative to the total project, not that much. I really don't mean to offend anyone about this; I'm just stating my own opinion. Here's my graphic representation of my opinion. Please don't beat me up on this; I'm just ventilating a bit.
Greg Myers Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 I think this is worthy of a thread of its own :WHAT GETS YOU GOING ?
sjordan2 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) I don't get the point of this thread. Can somebody clarify a bit? Is it about car enthusiasts who copy others? Edited April 13, 2011 by sjordan2
Harry P. Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I don't get the point of this thread. Like many of our best threads... it's eclectic!

An observation on hot rod trends that many here and in the 1:1 world follow, and a pondering of why? I remember many years ago someone saying hot rodding was nothing more than "Monkey see, monkey do"
Jon Cole Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) I also got tired of my deuce coupe looking like a clone... ...but I'm now stylin' since I replaced my artillery wheels with pie plates; and my headlights have been swapped out for candlesticks. Edited April 13, 2011 by Jon Cole

I remember many years ago someone saying hot rodding was nothing more than "Monkey see, monkey do" Oh, it's not just "hot rodding" per se.......it's EVERYTHING automotive. Take racing, for instance......if someone with pink wheels on their car wins two races in a row, next week they'll be five more cars with pink wheels.
Eshaver Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 My comment................ s : First, be yerself , not someone elses clone . Ed Shaver
