jhuntsman Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 i am building a 70 challenger and i was going to see if i could pick some of you guys brains about what to use for underhood detail parts. i want to add heater hoses, battery cables, things of that nature. i was wondering what you guys use for those items. any help is appreciated.
slant6 Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 if your talking about "non aftermarket" parts. You might try finding some scrap wire. I run an electronics automotive install shop, and occasionally grab scrap wire to use one my models. Maybe, go by a best buy or something like that and see if you can get a couple feet of scrap wire of different gauges. A little bit will go a long way. Or, just check out the dumpster...after hours though...we kick people out of ours for fear of them hurting themselves...bosses rules, not mine.
Pete J. Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Radio shack us just chock full of modeling parts. Diodes and resistors make great fuel line filters, every gage and color of wire you can think of to simulate hoses of all kinds, little screws and bolts for every thing. Just keep an open mind and think how something will look painted a different color.
Modlbldr Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Old electronic gadgets from the thrift stores. Old speakers (also good for metal screen, using the speaker cover), telephones, etc. Anything that came with wires or hoses I tear apart. Sometimes I get left over wiring from construction job sites, too. Later-
DanielG Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Small, insulated wires looted from something for plug-wiring. Brass or copper wire for metal piping. Various sizes of rubber 'string' from a bead store for hoses. Clamps made from metal foil. Slices of styrene hex-rod for nuts and bolt-heads. Last but not least, paint, to give the desired 'look', whether it be old or new. Hope this helps.
