djway3474 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I want to recreate the original box art. I have the later Monogram release in yellow plastic as a starting point. I can see that I need white walls and different wheels. Is there an easy kit to find these tires in or do I need to find aftermarket. The wheels look easy to get close too. Now the motor. What kit do I need to find for the motor? The issue I have does not look anything like the origional release. Lets have fun with this one and rack the old brains. Thanks guys. Dwayne
Danno Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 DJ, If you're gonna insist on wracking my brain, you're gonna have to wait until I can go to my locker and put my brain cup on. Be back.
diymirage Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 for those of us who dont know the duce some pics might help aswell as some info on the engine ?
jbwelda Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 i am not 100% on this but isnt the little deuce pretty much a shrunk down big deuce? maybe not in the exact details but it always looked pretty close to me. what i mean is there are a lot of big deuce photos to use as reference etc. the little deuce is pretty rare; ive been looking out for one (but for a reasonable price, or, like you, a collection of parts to go with my box sorry i couldnt offer any more help and i hope my suggestion wasnt too obvious. you should start a thread in the workbench section to follow your progress
djway3474 Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 Thanks for the pict. I have never seen that grill anywhere else so I will scratch that out unless anyone knows of a resin copy out there. Comparing the block I discovered a very bizzare thing. Same block but the details are on the opposite half. Where yours has the starter on the right and filter on the left mine is just the opposite. Weird. Mine also has a fuel pump. The later release valve covers have dual breathers where your pict shows one. I will look for others but its very close. I think finding a Lil Coffin I can get the carbs, manifold and tires wheels. That just leaves the grill and I am there. Thanks for your help DJ

The Lil Deuce is the 1:24 version of the 1:8 Big Deuce.
diymirage Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 i want to say you can get a set of those rims in the revell 32 ford (it comes with waterslide whitewalls) it may also be a good start for the engine which seems to be a 3 carb flattie?
Casey Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 i want to say you can get a set of those rims in the revell 32 ford (it comes with waterslide whitewalls) it may also be a good start for the engine which seems to be a 3 carb flattie? The wheels and tires in the Revell '32 Fords are not really that close to the Monogram parts in the Lil Deuce kit. The Lil Coffin is your best bet for the wheels and tires, as it has American Torq Thrust wheels and the pie-crust slicks with the separate sidewall. The Lil Coffin's wheel center caps may be slightly different (they are separate pieces), as I've never seen the Lil Deuce's wheels up close. I *think* the Lil Deuce and Blue Beetle shared the same wheels and tires, but neither are easy nor cheap to find these days. As mentioned, the grille is unique to the Lil (and Big) Deuce, but there's a review over in the New Kit Reviews section which has some good info about which versions of the kit contain the Starbird-designed grille.
Draggon Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 The engine is the real difficult part of this project. It was only in the Little Deuce issue of the kit.Seems to me there was a discussion of this here or on the TRaK forums. The old 60's issues of Monograms 34 Ford coupe/casbriolet might have it, but the examples shown dont look like the one I have from the original Little Deuce kit. I think its a Pontiac, if that helps. The custom grile is out there if you look hard, I've seen them on ebay a number of times. Greg Holland ( VSRN online ) doesnt have the decals, but he's got a lot of the other Monogram ones, so he might be able to make them for you. Great idea for this one! I've got the yellow issue too, and have been saving my grille and engine for the same reason!
djway3474 Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 Thanks Greg that is some great information. It occured to me that Revell could have a huge hit if they packaged the original tires and wheels as a parts pack. How many of us here have bought the Lil Coffin, Predicta or long ago the Blue Beetle and others cars just to raid them for the tires and wheels? Probably the most sought after combo ever if my friends are any indication.
Greg Myers Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 (edited) I think you're right on the wheel tire thing. Think they can get it together before AMT/RC Edited May 25, 2011 by Greg Myers
