Mooneyzs Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Does anyone know of any kits or aftermarket companies that may have Rims like these or something really close by chance?? I was thinking of building a model like this. they could be resin, plastic, aluminum. Thanks in Advance....
george 53 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Actually, Chris, those look like plain ol chromie wheels with a small custom hubcap. The WHEELS won't be hard to get at all, it's that center cap that's gonna get ya! MAYBE if ya look around, you could find an old custom hubcap that could be modded. Good luck.
Mooneyzs Posted May 31, 2011 Author Posted May 31, 2011 Thanks George. I have picked up a few white wall tires from Modelhaus. You know I never thought to find an old custom hupcap and mod it. Thanks for the suggestion, its a great one . I could always send it out to get chromed or paint with Alcald.
george 53 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Chris, try this gentleman. http://stores.ebay.com/The-Model-Car-Junkyard His name is Jim, and he has all kindsa old used parts, he MIGHT have watcha need. I've gotten grilles, bumpers, and even hubcaps from him,and he is very reasonable with his prices.Hope this helps.
JamesW Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 You could use regular ol chrome hubcaps and get some chrome bullet caps from hoppin hydros.
my80malibu Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 those look somewhat like the wheels available in the Revell 49 Merc. you would have to fabricate the bullet caps from maybe some caddy taillights.and paint them with alclad.
Mooneyzs Posted June 1, 2011 Author Posted June 1, 2011 Thanks everyone for all of the great suggestions. will try to search for some more but I may end up just trying to fabricate something and painting with Alclad.
Anderson_15_ Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 This is extremely late now but if u still pay attention to this post I know what kit has those exactly. The AMT Ford thunderbird 1962 kit has them. The tires r a small white wall so sanding to fitment might have to take place. I'm not even sure that kit existed when this was posted though. Just thought I'd let u know if u haven't found out about it yet
Snake45 Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 For the center caps/bullets, you might find something suitable at a hardware store, crafts store, or model railroad shop.
Maindrian Pace Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 In the 1:1 world, the caps are sometimes called Shannons Cones.
