Terry Sumner Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 (edited) I think this 60 is absolutely gorgeous. It's almost exactly how I've been thinking about building the 60 Starliner in my stash..or even the 60 Impala! Down low...big block engine...flawless candy...just perfect! Here's a link to some other photos of the car... http://www.hotrodscustomstuff.com/projects/1960-ford-starliner.html And here's a teaser pic I got off the net.... Harry P. Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 That is a very good looking car... of course it helps when you start out with a car that looks as good as a '60 Starliner already does! Not much to add to that. This car is also proof that you don't need the ridiculous clown-car ultra-gigantic wheels that so many people seem to think are mandatory these days.
Harry P. Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 It a beauty.......BUT check out one just as nice with "ultra - gigantic wheels" This is Bodie Strouds Scarliner......Its a "rebodied" ford gt...with ALL the goodies!! The wheels on this one are actually slightly smaller than the ones on the car that Terry posted.
Jantrix Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 The car in SR states that the wheels on the Starliner are 18x8 and 18x9's. So yeah, they avoided that 20+ inch craze that would make the car even harder to get low but still have a contemporary look. I think it's a great looking car.
Cato Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Make mine triple black with a dual quad Cammer and 15 x 8 & 10" Torque Thrusts...
Danno Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 It a beauty.......BUT check out one just as nice with "ultra - gigantic wheels" This is Bodie Strouds Scarliner......Its a "rebodied" ford gt...with ALL the goodies!! Nope. The one Terry posted is much nicer!
Terry Sumner Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 One thing about the one I posted that really appeals to me is that he eliminated that big hunk of chrome behind the rear tire. While some may love that aspect of the Starliner, it just never appealed to me...
Jim Gibbons Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 One thing about the one I posted that really appeals to me is that he eliminated that big hunk of chrome behind the rear tire. While some may love that aspect of the Starliner, it just never appealed to me... Can't say I disagree. It does look cleaner without it. As a former owner of a '60 Sunliner, I have to add that the trim there was nothing but a great rust trap. I really like '60 Fords, but they were perhaps one of the poorest built cars of the era. One thing I'm not fond of is the current trend to convert the instrument panels. Yes, they're more efficient, and give better info, but part of the magic of having an old car is the interior design. Yes, the '59 and '60 Fords had some of the least legible instruments you could find; white lettering on a light grey background. I did not like it. However, I still appreciate the interior design that went into it, and wish more customizers would, too. I'll take a jukebox dash any day!
Jantrix Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Those are 20s in the rear with 18" wide tires Wheels: 18x7 and 20x15 Bonspeed Wildthang Tires: 26x8.00R18 and 31x18.00 Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R Radial Read more: http://www.popularhotrodding.com/features/1104phr_1960_ford_starliner/borla_mufflers.html#ixzz1OhwYXlWt If you will check my post again, I was refering to the car that Terry posted. The car in Street Rodder. Not the Stroud car in Popular Hot Rodding.
Jantrix Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I am well aware of that.I posted Bodies wheel size to show that 20s will look good....and they do Oh, I thought you were correcting me. My mistake. No harm done. As for Stroud's Starliner, I think it's fantastic, but I do prefer the smaller wheels on the other.
Mike Kucaba Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I think there both great examples of the craft. To each his own,but to say one is the best is just one's opinion. I just saw a beautifully done '60 Starliner on the cover of Rod & Custom.Do I think this one is better than the other two,no,just another example of the craft.
Harry P. Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 The Bodie Starliner may be an impressive piece of engineering, but it's no custom. The body and trim look pretty much factory stock apart from the wheels.
Harry P. Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 And thats why I love it... Which brings me back to the point I made in the first place: There's no need to "customize" this car. It looks fantastic just as it came from the factory.

Right on Harry, but even those wheels are too much for this old dinosaur!
FordRodnKustom Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Beautiful 60 'Liner. Not a big fan of those rims though.
