Harry P. Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Does anyone have any idea what the circled items in this photo are?
sportandmiah Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) Going to take a stab, and say the top left and right are dashboard lights, and the top middle is a compass. No idea about the bottom. Edited June 19, 2011 by sportandmiah
spad007 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 my guess is Circled on the left and right (Defroster vents) you can see the left one is open and pointed toward passenger lower left (Bentley/Rolls Royce, automatic lubrication windows)just below the fuel totalizer window. top center oil fill for oil tank on other side of bulkhead/firewall . Do i win something if i got it right?
Art Anderson Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 The two identical items at the bottom of the instrument panel appear to me to be oil level indicators--given the glass bulbs inverted, and the U-shaped tubes in them, tapered to nozzles, they just about have to be something to do with engine oil, I think. Harry P. Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Ok, while we're at it... the big knob just above the tach?
jw78z28 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 all ready getting started on the bentley? I would have to say the glass things are the tubes for the radio. lol hope you plan on posting pics of this build. knob looks like shifter, unless that whats the black knob is on the right at about 5 o' clock on the steering wheel.

Already well underway. I'll post pix tomorrow.
slantasaurus Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Ok, while we're at it... the big knob just above the tach? I'm pretty sure that is the pump to pressurize the fuel tank, no fuel pump on these.
Harry P. Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 I'm pretty sure that is the pump to pressurize the fuel tank, no fuel pump on these. Hmmm... that would make sense. Thanks!
Modelmartin Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Going to take a stab, and say the top left and right are dashboard lights, and the top middle is a compass. No idea about the bottom. I concur with the dash lights. I ran across these same items on the '48 Ferrari that won Lemans in 49. They looked identical and were mounted vertically. Besides that - what would you need a defroster for in that car! I don't even think they had heaters in them! Those big engines radiated enough heat. The bowls on the lower part of the dash are the drip feeds for the supercharger gears. I also agree on the fuel pressure pump handle.
sjordan2 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) I also agree with fuel pressure pump handle. The wood handle looks like the handle of a manual hole punch (awl) and has a coiled spring around the shaft that goes into the dashboard. Edited June 19, 2011 by sjordan2
Harry P. Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Dashboard lights, fuel pressurizer pump handle, supercharger gears and engine oil feed indicators, and (probably) a compass at top center. Thanks, guys... that covers it.
