SuperStockAndy Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 That has semi gloss black lacquer spray?? I'm surprised to find out only Tamiya does. And to make it worse you can't get it because of their screwed up deal.

Guest Markus355 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 krylon makes a very good semi gloss black andy. it has just the right sheen for vinyl interiors or rubber hoses.
roadhawg Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) If you are anywhere near an Ace Hardware, their "Wrought Iron Black" is a nice sheen of semi-gloss black, almost perfect for suspension pieces and inner fenders. It's pretty hot though, so its best to use a primer first. Another option is to keep a can of Model Master Semi-Gloss Clear lacquer handy.....it can turn flat black into one shade of semi-gloss, and gloss black into yet another. I know the can says lacquer, but I've sprayed it over almost anything with no problems. Edited June 22, 2011 by roadhawg
mikemodeler Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Most auto parts stores have large cans of spray paints and they should have a semi-gloss black lacquer amongst them. I buy a can of Dupli-color gloss and semi-gloss from NAPA and they run about $6 each and are great for chassis or interior painting. I always prime underneath them so I am not sure if spraying directly on the plastic will cause crazing or other problems.
SuperStockAndy Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 Thanks guys, I'll have to check some stores out.
Longbox55 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Another one that works is Testors Laquer Gloss Black. Just don't clearcoat it. Comes of about the same sheen as the EDP finish found on 1:1 replacement body panels.
DanielG Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) Although not a laquer, Tremclad metal paint also has a nice subdued sheen and will shine up a bit more if gently polished with an old shirt cloth. Edited June 23, 2011 by DanielG
