RodneyBad Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Love to have a dog if I could be home with it more often than working. Dogs are like babys, ya always gotta be there for them. Where cats are like teenagers, they need ya but don't want ya to know it.. Gonna have any grass in there too? Got a dog house? or will it spend a lot of time indoors with ya? Be waiting to see pics of your puppy and dog house. I carry dog treats in my work truck for when I run into dogs on jobsites.. they are always happy to see me Only bittin Once..a pitbull. I blame the owner more than the dog..

Any dog is a good dog if its trained properly. If you train it to be a guard dog then it will do that, and most everyone will be scared of it. The dog knows that. Make sure its people friendly, or it will cost you lots and maybe the dogs life.

mountaindewd Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) Ask around if there are any dog parks in your area. Chances are very good in that city. Most cities have one or more. Usually fenced areas for them to run and play off leash. As far as training, the younger the better/easier. Here is a good reference site with a lot of helpful info. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/ I have also gotten a lot of helpful ideas/tips from the show "It's me or the dog" if you get the Animal Planet channel on cable. The pea gravel may get stuck in the dogs pads(bottom of feet) walking on it and cause discomfort for him/her. Dogs are great companions. Lock your wife and dog in the trunk for a while and see which one is happy to see you once released. I haven't tried this. Just sayin'. Edited June 29, 2011 by mountaindewd
Harry P. Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 German Shepherds are very intelligent dogs. Take good care of her and you'll have a great companion for many years.
James Flowers Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Go outside in your bare feet on a hot day with that pea gravel and walk around. You will know what your new dog feels like when it walks on it. You would not like it he or she will not either.Put some grass and a dog house in now. They need shade and something soft to walk on. You never know how long you may have to leave your dog in the pen. Things happen that you can not control. Do not start off treating it like a junkyard dog. That is just like what your pen looks like.

dogshabit Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 That sounds like an exciting time! It's great that you're preparing the yard for your new German Shepherd pup. Just like you, I've been thinking about getting a dog of my own. I’ve been looking into a Yorkie Husky mix because they seem like a fun blend of energy and companionship. Good luck with your new puppy. 1
