Jim Gibbons Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 (edited) I received my Modelhaus '61 Pymouth Fury yesterday, and man, am I impressed! I've built a number of 1/43 Provence Moulage and Starter resin models, but had never built a Modelhaus 1/25. I've read the rave reviews from folks here about his kits, and even at that, I expected at least a little filling and sanding. If there's anything that even remotely needs filling are a few tiny depressions on the absolute lowest part of the rocker panels, and primer will definitely fill those. The quality of the molding, plating, tires, and vacuformed clear parts are beyond reproach. I plan to build it in the same emerald green/white roof color scheme as one featured in Hemmings Classic Cars a few years ago. Now that I see the quality, I will definitely order parts to restore my JoHan '62 Plymouth. I was also able to get out today to Michael's and Harbor Freight (my first trip to both,) and picked up some good supplies. Years ago, a former roommate had taken off with my very expensive set of digital calipers, and I was able to get a decent set with a coupon for $9.95. My legs were ready to give out after a few stops including the grocery store, and Michael's was the last one, so I couldn't spend a lot of time there. I picked up some paints and modeling supplies I needed (I hadn't a clue they had those things,) so it was a very fruitful day. I'm disabled, and rarely get out, so this was a treat. I need to spend a few hours at Michael's sometime, as I got a slew of great ideas just whirling through the isles. If anyone wants, I can take a pic of the Modelhaus Plymouth kit, and post it here in the next few days. Let me know. Edited July 3, 2011 by Jim Gibbons
Eshaver Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 As odd looking as those early Chrysler Products were, I'm always in for pictures ........... !!!!!!! Ed Shaver
charlie8575 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 You'll enjoy building that Modelhaus kit, Jim. Don's stuff really is that good, and he's a nice guy, too. Definitely an exemplar to the aftermarket industry. Charlie Larkin
The Modeling Hermit Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 I've never ordered an actual kit, but I've ordered parts from Modelhaus and have always been extremely pleased, not only with the parts, but with the service.
Jim Gibbons Posted July 3, 2011 Author Posted July 3, 2011 I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them. I'm blown away as far as how well the whole model was molded; amazing stuff. I can see that it'll take a little work to drill out the correct stock chassis wheel centers, but that's a minor issue. I'm very psyched to build this. Stay tuned for pics.

Jim Gibbons Posted July 3, 2011 Author Posted July 3, 2011 Here are some of the promised pictures. The "gold" glow on the grille is a result of the ambient overhead lighting, and is not present on the parts. I'm still reeling at how beautifully these parts are molded and plated. Well worth the money. Without further adieu, the model:
Jim Gibbons Posted July 3, 2011 Author Posted July 3, 2011 I'm debating on whether or not I'll add a transmission and driveshaft hump to the JoHan style interior. I'm leaning towards the not, as it's shallow, and wouldn't add a significant difference. The car I'm going to base this build on has black carpeting, so it won't be very noticeable. When I was at Michael's, I saw that Testors has an Emerald Green acrylic lacquer that is nearly identical to the Plymouth color that year (with the same color name that Plymouth had!). If my hips weren't ready to give out at the time, I would have found a clerk to unlock the spray paint cabinet to get the color. No problem; I'll make it back there soon.
Eshaver Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Jim, thank you for the pictures ! Jim, ya shouldda bought the paint ! Jim , looks jus like the ole Jo- Han annual with out the cheesey custom and so called competition parts . ! Hey , go for it !!!!!!!!!!! Ed Shaver
Jim Gibbons Posted July 4, 2011 Author Posted July 4, 2011 Yeah, I should've bought the paint right there, but c'est la vie. They did have several cans of the color, so I know I can get it. Here's the Hemmimgs article car I'll be building: http://www.hemmings.com/hcc/stories/2006/06/01/hmn_feature3.html

Here's the Hemmimgs article car I'll be building: http://www.hemmings....n_feature3.html You can always get back to the store another time. BTW, the car in your link is gorgeous in the way that only an early 60s Mopar can be... I like that color, looks very good on the car.

charlie8575 Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Jim, I may copy your lead on that. The Emerald Green Testors has is actually a good bit darker. You might need to lighten it a little, but it'll be a good start. If you can, you might want to see if you can get some of the Tamiya metallic green spray lacquer. That's much closer to the car in the picture. Charlie Larkin
Jim Gibbons Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 Agree with Harry here...Are you going to tutone it like the one in the pictures?? Yup, Mike. White roof with the Emerald Green body. Thanks for the paint info, Charlie. I will do a test spray on white primer before the build.
Chuck Most Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Haven't built the Modelhaus '61, but I do like the OOP Promolite 2000 version, which is also based on the Jo Han but whith a different chassis. Can't wait so see this one done- aren't enough '61 Plymouth models out there, IMHO.
Jim Gibbons Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 Thanks, Chuck. This is an awesome molding. I hope I can do justice to this. Your '61 build made me order this. Definitely one of the coolest early '60s Mopars out there.
Jim Gibbons Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 Thanks for the photos and paint info, Dave. The Tamiya color is a bit closer, but I will check out the automotive colors.
