kenb Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Hi all, I've been lurking around here for some time, and I think it's time I started posting. I was at a show last year and picked up a couple of oddball pieces. One of them was a Triumph TR3, just the body with exterior chrome and the interior tub. A glue bomb to boot, oh yeah it's a curbside model also. My buddy said "you could probably do something crazy with that". Well I started today. I'm pretty sure this is the Minicraft 1/24 TR3. I stripped the 20 layers of paint off of it and the chrome pieces just popped off. next I opened the hood. Then I looked for a donor car in my stash. Found it! Revell 57 Chevy Pro Sportsman. I'm really into this and will post pictures of progress as I go. I'm totally open to comments and ideas. Ken
BKcustoms Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Wow! that definitely is different! i cant wait to see some more progress!
kenb Posted July 11, 2011 Author Posted July 11, 2011 This is a progress update. I cut the wheel tubs from the floor pan of the donor kit and trimmed them down to p\fit into the smaller Triumph body. Then I shortened the floor pan to fit. I had to fabricate a foot well box for the drivers legs as the distance from the wheel tubs to the fire wall was way to small. The firewall was trimmed to fit the body snug. I then shortened the tubular frame to position the engine properly. The lower control arms had to be trimmed off and relocated for proper wheelbase. I'm going to have to scratch build the engine compartment trusses as the ones in the kit just won't work. Working on the rear suspension next.
kenb Posted July 11, 2011 Author Posted July 11, 2011 Sorry about that, I thought I was adding pictures. I'll see if I can straighten this mess out. Hang in there. Ken
Foxer Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 (edited) Coolness! That definably is the Minicraft TR3 as I have that and the Gunze one that have been acting as donors for a TR4A build I've been working on. I ended up opposite you using the Minicraft frame ... I'll have to come up with a use for the body as you have. I love your use of the body! Nice job so far fitting that chassis. Those monster slicks look awesome Edited July 11, 2011 by Foxer
GTMust Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Some very nice cuttin' and fittin' work goin' on there! I'm going to be watching this one as well. Tony
rhs856 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I'm not sure what engine you're going to cram into that, but just looking at the rear slicks makes me want to take it for a spin (literally )!
djway3474 Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Gonna be cool. I was expecting flying killer rabbits though lol
