oldscool Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 (edited) Started 2 new ones the other day. I'm not much of a Chevy man but all of the built models of the 66 Impala that I have seen look so good that I just have to build one. The color is Tamiya's beautiful light blue pearl. The next one is being built from an original kit that I got from a buddy in trade. It was unmolested and was only missing 2 stock wheels and the clear display base. I'm building it straight OOB and the pic is only a quick mockup of course. It too is painted with Tamiya spray. The chrome is starting to go but maybe I can replace the bumpers someday with some reissue ones. The fact that they have lost some luster doesn't bother me as they look more realistic that way but the chrome has partly rubbed off on the front one. Should I go with a white interior or red? gus Edited September 6, 2011 by oldscool
crazyjim Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Both look terrific. How about a grey interior in the Riv?
High octane Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I'm likin' the black paint and wheels on that Riv and I would do the interior in white with a black package tray, dash, & carpeting. However I'm sure the Riv will look good no matter what colors you choose for the interior.
Nick Winter Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Gus, that Riviera's paint is absolutely Beautiful! How about a White interior, after all most of the interior parts would be black any way. Nick
XJ6 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 White Interior......Like the wheels you have chosen for the "Rev"...really "pop's" out ....Liken it....Cheers...
oldscool Posted August 26, 2011 Author Posted August 26, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the input everyone and I'm going with the black/white interior. I am building these two concurrently and am doing engine work right now. What's up with the "tuning fork" wheel mounts on the Riv? I built many an AMT and MPC annual in my whippersnapper days and don't recall seing this before. Thinking of converting to metal axles but then I would have to drill a hole in the engine . gus White Interior......Like the wheels you have chosen for the "Rev"...really "pop's" out ....Liken it....Cheers... Those wheels are straight from the kit. gus Edited August 27, 2011 by oldscool
charlie8575 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Gus, Neat picks. The Riviera in bucket seats came in black, blue, aqua or dove. As was pointed out, the seats and door panels were white, with black accents. You can see the details here. http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Buick/1966_Buick/1966_Buick_Prestige_Brochure/1966%20Buick%20Prestige-08-09.html I'll look forward to watching these go together. Dominik Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Hi, i like both cars you built. Two of my favorite. the paintjob on the Riviera is very nice, but i unlike the white interior - my opinion. i firdt chioce is a black one with white accents. i will watchin updates comming to follow your steps.
oldscool Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Got the engine for the Riv finished. Progress has been slow on this one I'm not going for factory correct of course. The color is Humbrol sea blue and I chose it for the contrast with the black body. The red plug wires were used because it is the only color wire I have in the right diameter and they look good with the blue engine. You can see the 396 from the Chevy kit in the background of the last pic. When I get it wired I will post some more pics. Thanks for looking, gus
oldscool Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 (edited) I now have the 396 for the Chevy finished. I used the same red wire that was used on the Buick engine but just painted it black. I had hesitated to do this on previous builds because I was afraid the paint would flake off when the wires were moved around. The paint stayed on just fine except where a little was rubbed off by my tweezers. I have to give credit to AMT for molding brackets for all the belt driven accessories on the Buick engine. Revell didn't see fit to do this on a kit that was engineered almost thirty years later. Thanks for looking, gus Edited September 6, 2011 by oldscool
