Sean, that's a good question . . . I think I've done a couple, but normally when I fade paint and want it to be shiny I do it with candies . . . they tend to be a lot more forgiving.

Keep goin' Dr. Cranky. You'll feel such inner peace after doing a SHINY paint job. I can't explain it - you'll just feel the love and togetherness that you'll never do rust again.

Sean, are you talking about fading on a rusty junker (like the one in your video) or fog-fading on a glossy paint job?

I'm not sure I am understanding your question . . . .

Hum, Bill, I have to say I like it, but with a slight CRANKY modification, if you don't mind.

Here it is:

LADY ROSE PIMPRESS!

LOL.

That's it, buddy, thanks!

Dc C he may be referring to the "fade" craze of the 70's,,, especially on vans and lowriders.

I could not find the original source to credit for this photo , for discussion purposes only.

nope i was talking about fade as in it looking like mother nature did her best to a new paint job 25 years down the road! did you watch the powerblock tv episode?

Oh, yes, yes, I understand now . . . there's a trick that I use borrowed from the military builders and it is called COLOR MODULATION, which basically means you break down a single color into light and dark and then use the lighter for highlights and the darker for shadows . . . and that used in combination with salt and hairspray, and you get some very interesting fade effects . . .

You see some of those results in this picture:

I provide an in-depth description of the whole process in Doctor Cranky's Book.

Thanks, everyone. No, the trailer I am going to use in another build . . . it's a real nice trailer too.

Oh, man, got it, got it you mean a faux finish? Okay. I learned to do that from my buddy Bryan McCallum. He usually puts down a coat of of paint, then another and then lightly sands until the new colors shows . . ..

All the different techniques are good to have in the bag of tricks, you know . . .
