I am going to use all the new parts too, including the front bumper board (I will use real wood though) and the roof light, etc . . . and I've gone ahead an built from scratch a bed frame to hold wood, tubing, tools, etc . . . All the body modification shave been made, and now it's ready for primer . . . Stay tuned in for more styrene fun . . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Here's a video to go with the start of this build . . .
saltflat1 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Dr. .... This feels as though its going to ba a definte watcher cant wait ......
Dr. Cranky Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Thanks, Henry . . . we'll see how it goes in these first few days . . . I feel good about this kit once again being available. Two years ago when I felt that hankering for building another I ended up paying a pretty petty for one. When I got back into the hobby about twelve years ago, this kit was on sale at Wal-Mart for 7.95 and I must have bought a dozen of them. Built a whole bunch, gave 3 away (the only models I've ever given to friends) and they were returned to me in pieces . . . So I quickly learned several lessons: 1) never give your work away, 2) when a kit you like is available (and that cheap) buy more than you need, 3) a good kit is worth building several times. Needless to say I am one happy camper at the bench.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 The objective with this build is to do to it, what was done to this one:
scalenut Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I was hoping you wouldn't totally rust this one ...lol.. I haven't see a strait up built one yet ... the last one I saw was converted to a Texaco Donk with huge chrome rims? but like you said you have plenty more !
Dr. Cranky Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Actually, Andy, I have not build a shiny one of these, ever . . . something about those fat fenders makes my Dremel go crazy!
Chuck Most Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Uh-oh... Cranky + Rusty Chevy Truck always = Killer results.
Tony T Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Setting my set to be tuned in to the Cranky Channel!
Dr. Cranky Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Thanks, Chuck and Tony. Yes, this one's got EYEGORE salivatin' all over his fire hydrant! LOL.
Rob Z Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Doc, that's too KOOL!!! I saw a '52 Ford for sale up here last year but, at the time was short on cash. If I would have been able to afford it I was going to put a ladder rack on it and the drive train out of my 2nd '94 F150. It would have been a 6 cyl with a 5 speed... Gotta keep my eyes on this one too...
Dr. Cranky Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Thanks, Rob. I appreciate the extra eyes!
Dominik Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 cool pick up - like it. the 55 Chevy is awsome! If that is your reference, i stay here often and watch your steps. Your kind of work, to make it old and rusty, i like most in modeling.
Foxer Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 You're going to RUST that beautiful thing?? !!
bandit1 Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 where and how are you getting these kits this early? i cant find the info on the website and i cant find it anywhere else other than evilbay!
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) Sean, I got them from the place I get most of my kits: MODEL ROUND UP in Atlanta. http://www.modelroundup.com/ Give them a try. They are fast and very professional, and they have reasonable prices. Edited September 4, 2011 by Dr. Cranky
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) All right, I am starting with the tires while the body, which is in primer, dries . . . Edited September 4, 2011 by Dr. Cranky
Rob Z Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Great tip Doc, thanks... One problem though, in the beginning of your video you mention wearing saftey glasses... Where are yours... This is alot easier than the way I normally wear a tire and a heck of alot faster...
