Nick Winter Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Quite the mouthful I know, Sort of a what if, and sort of a could very well exist. AMT worthless 90's promo that a co-worker gave me, so I detailed it up, still need to paint the turn signal lenses with some tamiya clear orange soon as I buy some.
MyBradKeselowski Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 That looks great well done, keep in mind that the turn signals vaguely on the 88-92 year model silverado are the color you have them. I have a 90 454 SS in air conditioned storage with the amber clear turn signals...
Dominik Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Like this "small" pick ups. Don't you have some mirrors, to complete it? without it looks so naked
Eshaver Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Don't mess with it . Just leave it alone and for goodness sake , KEEP THE BOX! Ed Shaver
Eshaver Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Dave , I'm always late . Heck, I'll probably miss the bus for my own funeral too........... Ed Shaver
Jordan White Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Looks good Nick, you're skills are definitely improving with each build! Of course, I'm surprised you didn't know that Chevy did in fact offer a Sport model in '92 (actually since '89). It basically had body color bumpers and grille, and came in black, red, and white. The '89 model looked exactly like the SS454, minus the decals and obviously engine.
RodneyBad Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Nice looking Build up. I like the sport decals slanted, looks Sporty. Grill and wheels look good too. Mirrors are overrated.. Nice work..
Nick Winter Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 too late for that Ed. in case you missed it, Nick painted it and added the decals, it's no longer an "untouched" original promo. even if it was, current values are only about $5 anyway i think. Nick, it's not bad. not so sure about the Crayola blue interior color and i wish that you'd gotten the Sport decals at the right angle and in the correct spots but oh well. if you are happy with it then that's all that matters. Dave in '92 the Decals were Slanted as per the photo below and I only painted the trim, the rest is just polished plastic. And as for the interior I'm not overly happy with it and probably will remove it, strip it and re-do it. Perhaps in red? And your correct about the Value $5 for the popular colors, which Summit White apparently is not. Looks good Nick, you're skills are definitely improving with each build! Jordan, When I said, could well have existed I mean that a Sport with Silverado Trim (IE Chrome parts instead of the painted black.) Dominik, I don't have a set for this truck, and don't wanna rob a set from any of the others I have, but yes it does look a bit naked. As For Kasey, Cranky, Grey and Rodney Thanks. Nick
Jordan White Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Jordan, When I said, could well have existed I mean that a Sport with Silverado Trim (IE Chrome parts instead of the painted black.) Nick Gotcha!
Nick Winter Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 trust me Nick, i know that the decals were slanted and i know where they were placed. i worked on a ton of these trucks in the early/mid-90's if you look at your reference pic that you posted take note that the decal is located at the middle of the vertical part of the taillight and slants up at less of an angle than you placed yours. reference pics like that are all over the 'net, just figured you would have gotten that little detail right instead of just "winging" it. since the promo does screw and snap together maybe you could go back and change the interior color. the red does sound nice and a better match to the trucks color and those Sport logo's. Dave, the Sport decals, are stickers, and well there out of scale (too big), I tried, what can I say.
spkgibson Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Dave, the Sport decals, are stickers, and well there out of scale (too big), I tried, what can I say. Sorry Nick, I have to agree with Dave, They are at to much of a slant, Look closely at the photo you posted, It has a Slight Slant, Overall though it turned out nice, It needs a different color interior though. Without the sport stickers it would have looked fine, But It seems to clash with the color Combo,As far as worthless, Wait 20-30 years from now, These will go up in value just like most of the other chevy truck promos. Very nice build Nick, You're getting better with every build, They look alot cleaner then some of your past builds, Keep Up the good work.
von Zipper Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Looks GOOD !! I like the way you tinted the windshield.
surfjunke Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Nice build. Good to see a promo being modified & made to look better.
