Greetings, you CRANKYHEADS! Doctor Cranky here to feed you some eye candy on this fine and lovely Thursday. Here are the results of an amazing collaboration between Mr. Jim "Hollywood" Fernandez (of "Bad Penny" Fame) and Mr. Ken "Wildhare" Hamilton (no need for an introduction), who were kind enough to whip up this little gem to help showcase the Lab-RAT-ory's new line of "CRANKED-UP" decals.

Enjoy:

Thanks, everyone. Yeah, I'm really thrilled to have this one in my collection. The truck is a diecast that I am sure Jim Fernandez had in his collection and decided to take apart and then repaint.

Goes to show you how much fun you can have with the right diecast subject!

Thanks, Ken . . . I don't know what kind of red that is, or paint line, I'll have to ask Hollywood Jim what he used.

Thanks for staying tuned in . . .

Over the top. That's how we likes 'em. Looks better than great. Y'all knocked yourselves out. And yes, we all want to know where the heck you got a decent flat red from. If you don't tell us, we'll tie you to the back of the truck and then we'll jump up and down on the airbrush button until you talk !!

LOL! I'll find out from Jim as soon as he answers my email.

You can't tie our good Doctor Cranky down because you have to fight off his Lab-RAT-ory Security Detail first!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Andy. Yes, I think Ken Hamilton had a blast building it. He used the trailer from the Midget Racer . . . as a foundation and everything else is scratch-built, including using pieces of an old Paasche airbrush.

Here's what Hollywood emailed me today about the build:

OK, here goes. I received the trailer and airbrush from Ken in light grey primer. The truck is a diecast. I disassembled the truck. I lowered the suspension. I used wheels and tires from the Revell 29 ford rat rod kit. I sanded down the logos on the hubcaps, de-chromed them and painted them red.

I sanded the truck body and fenders with 600 grit sandpaper. I painted the truck and trailer with two coats of Krylon rattle can flat white primer . I sanded the truck and trailer with 1000 grit sandpaper. I painted the fenders with rattle can Rustoleum America’s Finest gloss “Banner Red”. I painted the truck body and parts (doors, tailgate, etc.) and trailer with rattle can Krylon gloss Sun Yellow.

I then put the truck back together. I applied the decals. Then I masked off the windows and sprayed everything with rattle can Model Masters dull clear coat.

Then I reinstalled all of the door handles and chrome stuff etc.

Here are some of the original pictures (courtesy of Jim "Hollywood" Fernandez) of the build before it was finished . . .

The original diecast donor (you can read along Jim's descriptions of what he did to it in the previous post):

Talk about having way too much fun taking things apart!

Again, the fun that could be had with a diecast:

A beauty in the making:
