SuperStockAndy Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) Sounds like you were born a hundred years too late. You would probably have loved churning your own butter and weaving your own cloth... I wasn't born 100 years too late, I was born 30 years too late. Edited October 8, 2011 by Andy C.
charlie8575 Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 Though you could argue the Model A does have a computer.... Sure, most people think of a 'computer' as being electronic, but there were mechanical computers long before electronic ones. A computer is a programmable device designed to sequentially and automatically carry out a sequence of arithmetic or logical operations. It could be argued a carburetor does just such an operation- meters a given amount of fuel to the engine. So, depending on how loosely you use the term, you could argue the Model A has at least one computer on it, albeit a mechanical one. A very interesting argument, Chuck, and not a bad one, either. SuperStockAndy Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 ^Ditto. Never thought of carburetors like computers. What about transmissions?
Harry P. Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 I think calling a carburetor a "computer" is reeeeeeeally a stretch. Most people would define a a computer as a device that involves electronics. com·put·er [kuhm-pyoo-ter] noun 1. Also called processor. An electronic device designed to accept data, perform prescribed mathematical and/or logical operations at high speed, and display the results of these operations. If we go with Chuck's argument, then my fingers are a computer...
Rob Hall Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Interesting pursuit this guy is doing. Personally, I prefer to stay with vehicles made in this century..I like the reliablity, safety and amenities of modern cars...
