Lessee the House....And I'm stoppin there. What goes on in my cave is no ones business but MINE.

My wonderful wife has HER own business, so it works both ways.

I will say if I really want it...it will be mine. I sure am glad I do not build Pochers like Harry!!

But you know I also worry about the one day when Doctor Cranky gets called up for active duty in the eternal service of rust (euphemism for dying!) and my family would not have a clue about what to do with all this valuable junk!

It weighs on my mind every once in a while.

Lyle Willits made an observation once that it'll all go for $5 each at a yard sale.....

I myself have informed my wife whom to deal with as far as liquidating my junk after I pull the chute. One person will handle my cars, another my musical instruments, and another the models,my tools, etc.

Hey, death is part of life.

I don't nor have I ever kept track. If I want and can afford it, I get it. Should I head to the afterlife, my kids will put it all on Craig's List. I'll be dead; I won't care anymore.

So we're all in the same boat. What happens when "the time" comes? I'm sure you've all thought about that.

Learn eBay or train your children to use it. I haven't done either, and "the time" is not far off.

I'm takiing mine with me, I'll need something to keep me busy!!!

Ok, on the serious side, I'm only 35 and I've already thought about it mainly because a fellow club member from the former club I was in past away maybe a year or two ago now, and his collection was about the same in kit amount as mine is currently. There are some that went to a LHS to be sold, some will be going on ebay, and me and another friend both bought about 7 large boxes each. I've already informed my friend if something happens to me thanks to my high blood pressure that has been going wacky lately or any other reason, he is already volunteered to help my fiancee go through the about 500+ kits and for his help, anything he wants is his. Anything else left over either goes on ebay or to the LHS to be sold, or offered up on here for liquidation in the Swap, Free, or Trade section.

Now, if we were to talk Musical gear??

I'm sitting here typing this and I see 25,000 in gear... Of course I made a decent living playing music for 18 years and between that and the garage, I did well for many years.

Bob

Ah... now THAT I have a good handle on!

1978 Washburn Falcon - free (inherited it)

1998 Harmony Sunburst 'strat'- $50 at a pawn shop

Beat-up Marshall VS30 amp- got it for free because it was taking up space in a buddy's attic

Even with strings, cords, picks, straps, cases and gig bags, I doubt I have $500 in music equipment. At least I have ONE of my hobbies in check!

How can you put a price on Joy?

Just my closet alone (at an average of $15 each and 3 rows deep) is personally valued at $5300

Closet2-20-11.jpg

Plus 3 more walls of models, $5040.

Countless boxes of Models (30 each x 10(average)) $4500

Plus (roughly) 300 sets of wheels and tires.(average $7 a piece) $2100

Happiness has no price, Just the Value of happiness you enjoy...

I have been fortunate to have some of the biggest and most incredible collections in the U.S.

I won't mention names, they would not like that, but some of these collections are just mind-blowing.

The amount? Well, easily four or five of them would top $100,000 in a heartbeat.

A couple of them double that.

I have asked to do features on them, but they say no, and I respect that.

It is a hobby, and like all hobbies, some of us just go bonkers!!!

With what happened to a few of our friends here on the forum in the recent months with the big storms that passed, it may be a good idea to start inventorying your collections for insurance purposes, just to be safe.

I was working on a program that used a hand-held scanner and would show all the kit info, putting it into a database, but that's another one of those projects that got put on the "to-do" pile.

Interesting thread, I have enjoyed almost all the responses. It's good to see what everyone has, a little peak into the lives of our far-reaching ohana....
