FASTBACK340 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 This build brought a smile to my face on several levels. First of all, I have a weak spot for vintage VW's. I've owned a 57 oval window, a 21 window bus, a 68 Baja, and a 67 Cal-Look bug. At the moment we also have a GTI in the garage. Second, the weathering is first-rate. It has "The Look" if you know what I mean.... But the biggest smile I got was seeing someone build this. I knew a modeler with a similar build style. His name was Dave Dickash and he had a similar twisted mind. He built a blown fuel Isetta rail and rocket powered Studebaker's. If it was several galaxies outside the box, it came from his workbench. Dave was featured heavily in all the Model Mag's because of his creations. Unfortunately we lost Dave about 6 yrs. ago and until now I've never seen someone with the same vision as him. Thank you for reminding me of a good friend and a hellvua builder with your awesome VW. Dave would have loved it.... as do I.
FASTBACK340 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I can't believe it, but Dave's old web page is still active..... but here's some of Dave's work. http://www.angelfire.com/in4/blu4/
Dr. Cranky Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 John, THANK YOU for providing Dave's website so we can enjoy his models. He definitely has some wonderful work there, and different to.
W-409 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 LONG LIVE RUST!!! I remember that. Great job with it, this thing has lots of great attitude. I like Gassers very much and this is really Old School! That rusting is really great, it looks just like in 1:1 scale. Engine detailing looks very good too. Thanks for sharing this one, I like it.
Wagoneer81 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Just when I think I've seen it all... Insane as usual, Doc! I love it!
Dominik Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Still crazy Doc...you always make perfect weathering!
Dr. Cranky Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 Thanks for the kind words, and the great sense of humor!
dimaxion Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 I am always amazed at your work . I noticed the chain wrapped around the rear horizontal pole . I see it is a good place and a handy tow chain to pull this out of the ditch when you unleash the ponies !!! Wow ... Thanx ..
Dr. Cranky Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 Thanks, John. Styrene addiction is fun, ain't it?
