cargostar Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Well, my modelers ADD kicked in, and the plastic started to fly. This is a Mack/Superior 100' mid-mount aerial. It is one of three identical trucks ordered by Toronto FD.
cargostar Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 I don't know why I can't build anything small...... Tail light pods. I built one, and then cast the other. The lenses will get a chrome dress ring around them.
highway Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I'm going to watch this one for sure! Nice start.
catd11rpusher Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Can't wait to see it done ,your putting a lot of effert into it, Is it a kit or from scratch?
69A-CAR Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 That is an awesome start! I can't wait to see more
cargostar Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 Thanks! Its all scratchbuilt. I'm using one of my resin MR Mack cabs, and lots of Evergreen!!!
scale trucker Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 dave that is gonna be crazy';';very nice start..
bsoder Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Man that's gonna be a beast!!!...I'll keep an eye on this
cargostar Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 So, after spending a couple of hours under/in a Mack MR garbage truck over the weekend, I was able to come up with the major frame dimensions, and about 150 pics for refrence. Here is the front frame crossmember/yow eye. This a bolt on component to the front of the frame on the 1:1! Here is the lower cab tilt cylinder mount. And, the interior. I'm using one of my "seconds" castings that is laying around.
Ben Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Ewwwww, under a garbage truck?!?!? You must really want to build this truck! LOL Lookin pretty awesome so far!!!
cargostar Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Yup. UNDER a garbage truck. It was only a year old, so it wasn't that bad. Same yard where I measured the sleeper for you!
Ben Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Yup. UNDER a garbage truck. It was only a year old, so it wasn't that bad. Same yard where I measured the sleeper for you! I hope you don't decide to build a septic truck!!!!!!!! LOL
cargostar Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Nope, just a diversion for a bit. Needed a break from the I cab. There were a couple thinks that were not quite "right" and they were fighting me, so, I put it away for a bit and started something else.
cargostar Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 A little update. After building the front frame, I fabricated a pair of frame rails. Then I mated the front to the main rails. Since I am building two MR chassied fire trucks, I tackled the front springs next. I built 4 at the same time. When I was at home over the holidays, I was able to get some more dimensions and pictures of the truck. while i had ambition, I started on the first of 4 sections of the ladder. For strength, and because of the size, I am laminating strips of different sizes together to get the correct size and shape.
BigBad Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 This is an awesome build! You scratch builders push this hobby to an art form. Got to have respect for this! This is great inspiration for us. Go Dave!
