customsrus Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 This is another build for one of my grandchildren. My oldest daughter wanted me to build her daughter an Impala that she could put up on her shelf for years to come. She said just build it out of the box and she would be happy, but I could not leave well enough alone. Revell 94 impala SS converted to a 2 door. I moved the back glass forward approx. 1/2 inch or so moved front door post back, removed small quarter glass, added a hood blister and molded in a rear spoiler ,and this is what it looked like. Again could not leave well enough alone. Did not like the way the top of model looked, kinda reminds me of a bubble. So I had to cut the top down and it seems to look better. Also added some plastic to the bumpers.
Cool Hand Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Thats looks good,I like the concept of a 2 door/coupe. Just a suggestion and hope you dont mind,I saved and did a quick rough edit/chop to one of your pics. The back end seems a bit long and IMO it would look much better if a vertical section was removed to reduce the length, shown below.
customsrus Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Made a little progress on this build. My daughter picked the colors that she wants me to paint this , she choose Testors Purple-licious and Testors Electric pink, both are the one coat lacquer type. On to the build. I finished the chassis, Had to modify the suspensions to get it lower. My daughter is naming this child Deityn (pronounced Dayton as in Dayton wheels),so I had to have some daytons on this. Also modified the interior to look somewhat like a two door painted it in light gray with pink and purple highlights and used purple flocking for the carpet.
customsrus Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Also got some of the paint on the body, first I tried some lace on the hood, roof and trunk.(and yes I know the pattern is not to scale) painted this with the purple ,then I thinned down some of this paint with some clear and shot this on with an airbrush, then I added a checkered pattern to the quarter panel again using the same paint as before, the added some flames with the pink. Hard part of this was I had to clear and wet sand each layer just to keep the paint line from showing. I just painted the final coat of purple and will post when dried.
Nitrozilla Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 That's a lot of work and a lot of love going into that. What a wonderful gift to give a child that will (hopefully) be a reminder of Granpa for their whole lives. I built a model for each of my 3 GrandBratz one Christmas and they were thrilled beyond belief. Of course now they want me to build for them all the time. Feel Good Modeling
Dr. Cranky Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I like the paint job, buddy. It's looking good. You are going to end up with a very unique model. Keep it going.
Skydime Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Even though it doesn't quite look right proportionally, I like the long deck on the back. It gives new meaning to "mob car" with that trunk size. How did you get the lines on the airbag and vent so clean?
charlie8575 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Neat color scheme, and I hope it's something your granddaughter will treasure for many years. I understand the economics of GM not having made a B-body 2-door for the last generation, but it's still too bad. They do look good like that. Charlie Larkin
customsrus Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Finished this, moved to Under Glass
